I've tried three times now and each time it successfully formats my 1.4Gb swap, and then starts to format my 8.3Gb /root - at this point the progress bar jumps straight to 100% immediately. The timer still runs and the mouse-pointer still moves, for a few minutes. Then it totally freezes and I have to pull the plug on the whole thing and restart the machine.

Anyone have any idea what could be causing this??

I'm installing SuSe 10.1 on a Sony A617B laptop, on the D:\ partition.
Pentium M 1.73ghz
1024 Gb RAM

are you absolutely sure it hangs ? does the cpslock LED do anything if you press CAPSLOCK

how long have you waited to see if it's hung ?

have you tried reading the RELEASE notes ?

Didn't try that... I'll give it a whirl a bit later

The longest I left it was about an hour

Ha! Nope. Just downloading the Suse linux reference guide pdf from Novell now.

I have the same notebook.

It's possible to install 'Fedore Core 5' on it but only with the rsolution 800x600.


Auf dem Vaio VGH A617B läßt sich nur Fedora Core 5 installieren. SuSE 9.3, 10.1 und Ubuntu 6.06 bleiben beim einbinden der Festplatte hängen (SuSE 9.3 liefert auch eine entsprechende Fehlermeldung).

Ich habe noch keine bessere Auflösung als 800x600 hinbekommen und wäre für diesbezügliche Tipps dankbar.
