Where is this fabled openGL interface or whatever it's called, where do I find it, and how do I turn it on? I'd google it, but "OpenGL" just brings up a bunch of gobbledygook, and I'm not even sure that's what it's called.

Ideas?

i assume you mean the wobbly windows, etc.

yea i use archlinux..installed it used for about a week then switched back to X.. I'm not much of an eye candy person though..

if I'm right , then you're not looking for opengl..

you're looking for a

aiglx (recommecned for ati card users)

or

xgl (recommecned for nvidia users)

they are two different projects.. but both are hosted at freedesktop..

here's a video of XGL in action - http://video.linux-noob.com/xgl-demo1.xvid.avi
