  1. I spend a lot of time helping in several of the channels listed, but when I need help I usually get it from #solaris or #regex as those are the things I sometimes need help with.

  4. first of all you should search for rpms on rpmfind.net or freshrpms.net second here is the easiest way to get gcc installed in your situation. you can also use apt from now on for other installs. get apt from http://apt.freshrpms.net install it: rpm -ivh apt-* run this: apt-get update && apt-get install gcc
  5. Every day all day. I use no windows pc's at home or at work. The only other OS I do use is solaris.

    Create an Image

    dd if=/dev/hda of=hda.iso you now have an iso image of the entire contents of drive hda
  7. add this line to /etc/apt/sources.list rpm http://download.fedora.us fedora/fedora/1.92/i386 os stable testing updates then run apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade
  8. First that is not the fluxbox website it is here: http://fluxbox.sourceforge.net, and second that is for an older fluxbox version (0.9.8). My rpm is the newest version of fluxbox (1.1.14)
  9. I would reccomend fedora. You are already familiar with redhat and it has all the new improvements over 9.

    you need an entry in /etc/hosts for your hostname and your lan ip. hostname.domain hostname

  14. The "transparency" that you see in most terms is a trick. You are not seeing through the term it is just showing you the root image of your background. So you wouldnt be able to look through the terminal and see what was in the browser behind it. Here is a screenshot to show you what I mean: http://grep420.net/images/trans_term.jpg
  15. also note that these changes only take effect if the network service is restarted or the interface is cycled. i.e. service network restart

    Fedora installation

    do the following steps from a command prompt: wget http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/fed...0.1.fr.i386.rpm wget http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/fed...0.1.fr.i386.rpm rpm -Uvh apt-* apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade && apt-get install XFree86-devel # done you should be all set and it will get the needed dependencies as well
  19. heres a quick howto for installing winex 1. cvs -d:pserver:cvs@cvs.transgaming.org:/cvsroot login 2. When prompted for the password enter "cvs" 3. cvs -z3 -d:pserver:cvs@cvs.transgaming.org:/cvsroot co winex 4. cd winex && ./tools/wineinstall
  20. If you are not able to use service you can: /etc/rc.d/init.d/sshd start

  22. noone said it was difficult to install or use, its just more of a pain in the ass to administrate. If you were not a Noob you would know that.
  23. try redhat-config-network also run lspci as root and see if they are listed
