Hi folks, CentOS 4.4 amd64 - server I follow following howto building "Virtual Users" Virtual Users With Postfix, PostfixAdmin, Courier, Mailscanner, ClamAV On CentOS http://www.howtoforge.com/virtual_users_po...r_clamav_centos I started "screen" recording all typing/keystrokes and output on the Terminal. "sudo" sometimes requested for password. root password did not work. Another time it worked without requesting password. I can't understand WHY. If root password did not satisfy the request I have to run "su" or "su -" to proceed. After executing commands ran "exit" to exit. $ sudo cat /etc/sudoers | tail # Same thing without a password # %wheel ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL # Samples # %users ALL=/sbin/mount /cdrom,/sbin/umount /cdrom # %users localhost=/sbin/shutdown -h now satimis ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD:ALL vmail ALL=(ALL) ALL $ cat /etc/group | grep satimis wheel:x:10:root,satimis satimis:x:500: On runing; (page 1) sudo rpmbuild -ta courier-authlib-0.58.tar.bz2 root password did not work. 3. Hi folks, Vyatta - the midrange routing software http://www.vyatta.com/download/index.php There are 2 editions; # Vyatta Community Edition 2 # Vyatta Subscription Release 2.0 What will be the feature and function differences between these 2 editions? Are there other similar open source projects? Tks. B.R. satimis
  4. Hi znx, Tks for your URL I recalled 4~5 years ago. I ran RAID 0,1 via a RAID PCI-controller. I supposed it was software RAID requesting software detecting the HD and being OS depending. (I tested it on FC2/3) I tested LVM before but found not much advantage. I never test software RAID on Linux distro. I think when time allows I' will test RAID 0/1 or even 5. I have ASUS M2N-E motherboard which supports 6 SATA devices. I just purchase 2x160G HDs for 0+1 and 3x160G HDs for RAID 5. I already have 2x160G HDs available Still I can't understand how HP can replace with a bigger capacity HD OR can add further HDs to the existing RAID system. I did not have a chance to ask on the conference because of limited time allowed. B.R. satimis
  5. Hi znx, In conference almost all speeches focus on advertising not touching in-depth technology. Would it be software RAID? I haven't tested software RAID before. If my motherboard supports 6 SATA devices can I run software RAID-5 on 5 SATA HDs, not one HD divided inot 5 partitions? If one HD get full can I replace it with a HD of bigger capacity and it won't be recognised as the same capacity as other 4 HDs? TIA OR any folk on the forum has had experience on software RAID? Tks B.R. satimis
  6. Hi znx, Tks for your advice. Not LVM. I'm running it on FC. I just came across HP Virtual Array today in attending a conference. http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storage.../eva/index.html The advantage of HP VA is additional HDs can be added later w/o sacrifying its capacity. E.G. A 300G HD added to the existing Array running 80G HDs still as 300G not as 80G B.R. satimis
  7. Hi folks, HP Virtual Array technology:- What will be the equivalent technology on Open Source? Tks. B.R. satimis
  8. Hi znx, Tks for your advice which I agree. I found many doc for postfix but a few for Sendmail. This is a test on slamd64-11.0, not for production. Sendmail is the default MTA of slamd64-11.0 therefore I use it. It is now running without problem. Mails can be sent and received by Sendmail. Tks again for your URL B.R. satimis
  9. Hi folks, AMD Athlon54 X2 512Kx2 socket AM2 3800 slamd64-11.0 Just completed installing the captioned OS with everything installed except GAME. This is an experiment. slamd64 is now running on the box. I'm going to setup virtual mail boxes on this server, allowing my friends using the mail server sending and receiving mails. Please advise; 1) how to check whether sendmail is running and configured properly. 2) how to setup virtual mail boxes. Where can I find relevant tutorial. TIA B.R. satimis
  10. Hi folks, Tks for your advice. Problem solved by editing DNS Control Center on Godaddy site making all items under "CNAMES (Aliases)" pointing to "satimis.com". Now postfix can receive mails. My next step will be setup user mail boxes, security, etc. Please advise where can I find "documents for Ubuntu" to install/setup Postfixadmin, setup vmail user account and usergroup, setup files linking MySQL and postfix, etc. TIA B.R. satimis

  12. Hi xDamox, Tks for your link I read your tutorial as well as anyweb's tutorial; how to vnc to another pc via SSH, vnc using ssh https://www.linux-noob.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=615 My case will be slightly different. I'm not prepared to NFS install OS on the server. I'll install the base OS, Slackware/CentOS, on the server direct on DVD installer on DVDRom including Apache, PHP, MySQL, Sendmail, etc. but excluding X-window and related packages. After finish the server will be rebooted. Then the Workstation, say for example a Fedora box, will take place to continue configuring the server. If additional package/packages needed, the Fedora box will install the same on the server remotely. Another question is how to run updating (e.g. apt-get or yum) the server on Fedora box remotely. IP address for the server will be 192.168.0.10 and for Fedora 192.168.0.11 respectively. I did this trick, remote administrating distant Linux box, several years before, some thing like dx, fx were needed. But unfortunately I can't recall nor can I found the respective instruction. Advice would be appreciated. TIA B.R. satimis

  14. Hi folks, OS: Slackware or CentOS I'm prepared to build an experimental server which includes Apache, PHP, MySQL, Proxy, Sendmail, Firewall, Webmail, etc. No graphic will be run on the server. In order to facilitate searching Internet for advice a workstation shall be connected via router to remote install the packages. The IP for the server will be 192.168.0.10 and for the workstation 192.168.0.11. Basic installation will be made by running the DVD installer download from respective website. Additional to the packages for running the server what other packages are needed for remote installation and for accessing the server to configure all relevant services. Please advise. TIA B.R satimis
  15. Hi anyweb, Yes, please advise how to proceed. I'm ready. Besides my server is not up round the clock. It is only up on testing. Please advise if any change made on my server so that I can learn. Tks What is it? TKs. My server can be visited on browser by running; satimis.freeddns.com:8080 ISP blocks port 80. It worked on my friend's WinXP box. Tks B.R. satimis
