    memory stick

Hello, I am running Ubuntu Hoary 5.04 with a custom kernel 2.6.11-12 and I am having a problem getting the memory stick to mount. When I compiled the kernel I selected SCSI disk support as a module, MMC/SD support compiled in, MMC block device driver compiled in as a module, USB Mass Storage Support compiled in, Here is the output from /var/log/messages when i put the stick in the drive: Jul 1 11:25:42 localhost kernel: usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 9 Jul 1 11:25:42 localhost kernel: scsi7 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices Jul 1 11:25:47 localhost kernel: Vendor: Generic Model: CF Reader Rev: 1.01 Jul 1 11:25:47 localhost kernel: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 00 Jul 1 11:25:47 localhost kernel: Attached scsi removable disk sda at scsi7, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 Jul 1 11:25:47 localhost scsi.agent[7508]: sd_mod: loaded sucessfully /etc/udev/udev.conf says : # udev_root - where in the filesystem to place the device nodes udev_root="/dev/" the only new devices in /dev when I put the stick in are : brw-r----- 1 root plugdev 8, 0 Jul 1 11:42 sda if i attemped to mount that: root@jerlaptop:/usr/src/linux # mount -t vfat /dev/sda /mnt/mstick/ mount: No medium found here is udevinfo : root@jerlaptop:/usr/src/linux # udevinfo -a -p /sys/block/sda looking at the device chain at '/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.2/usb3/3-1/3-1:1.0/host8/target8:0:0/8:0:0:0': BUS="scsi" ID="8:0:0:0" SYSFS{detach_state}="0" SYSFS{device_blocked}="0" SYSFS{max_sectors}="240" SYSFS{model}="CF Reader " SYSFS{queue_depth}="1" SYSFS{queue_type}="none" SYSFS{rev}="1.01" SYSFS{scsi_level}="3" SYSFS{state}="running" SYSFS{timeout}="30" SYSFS{type}="0" SYSFS{vendor}="Generic " Everything seems to check out fine! But /dev/sda1 isn't being created and I get the no medium found. Even if I do #mknod /dev/sda1 b 8 1 I get a no medium found error. If anyone can help, please do! Thanks!
  2. This is the same problem as the ICH-4 Intel 82801DB Sound Card . The solution is to add "snd-intel8x0m" to /etc/hotplug/blacklist. There is a conflict with the modem the chip shares.
  3. I have, what Windows XP, reports as a Conexant AC-Link Audio card in my Gateway 7324gz laptop computer. In the Details Section, the Device Insance ID is: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24c5&SUBSYS_202F161F&REV_03\3&267A616A&0&FD In the Resources Section: I/O Range E400-E4FF EE80-EEBF Memory Range E02FF800 - E02FF9FF Memory Range E02FF400 - E02FF4FF IRQ 17 It works fine in Windows XP. In Fedora Core 4, when I use detect sound card, the soundcard is detected as : Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller snd-intel8x0 lsmod lists this related information: snd_intel8x0m 22084 0 snd_intel8x0 36160 1 snd_ac97_codec 74744 2 snd_intel8x0m,snd_intel8x0 snd_seq_oss 36608 0 snd_seq_midi_event 11776 1 snd_seq_oss snd_seq 55184 4 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi_event snd_seq_device 13068 2 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq snd_pcm_oss 55840 0 snd_mixer_oss 23040 1 snd_pcm_oss snd_pcm 93700 5 snd_intel8x0m,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pc m_oss snd_timer 29188 2 snd_seq,snd_pcm snd 58212 11 snd_intel8x0m,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_s eq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer soundcore 13792 1 snd snd_page_alloc 14212 3 snd_intel8x0m,snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm When I press test sound, the application needs to be force quitted becuase it crashes. Gateway's specifications page for this notebook report this card as: PC2001 compliant AC' 97 audio The full specifications are here: http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Gatewa...103099sp3.shtml Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the audio working with Linux?
  4. As an alternative you can always set up a ssh connection between the two computers using ssh-keygen and then use rsync -ave ssh!

    more fun!

    ROFL, that is hilarious
  7. I am not aware of a way to cleanly remove the source install once they are installed except for searching for the libraries and executables and then removing them. Why do you want to remove them completely?
