  1. Most users who have tried to install a distro on their Compaq machine most likely ran into a brick wall known as a reboot loop after initrd.img loaded. Well after hours of troubleshooting and ripping out hardware, it came down to one settiing in the BIOS (3.15). If your VRAM is anything over 1MB as a setting, it appears Linux goes nuts and won't install if at all. Setting the VRAM size to 1MB seems to clear the problem but I recommend getting a PCI Video Card until Compaq releases a newer BIOs to fix this bug. Post comments if needed.
