  1. I am a linux noob, but I will try to help. To install a program from it's source code, refer to this post: https://www.linux-noob.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=145 If a program doesn't put an entry in your start menu, you need to add it yourself. I use the Menue Editor program in KDE. The command is kmenuedit and you just use that to add new stuff. Hope that helps
  2. where is the switch user thing? I have fedora core 3, I think that has a newer version of KDE, but I don't see any menu like that. "The K menu now bears a new entry. Rather at the bottom of the menu you will find a Switch User submenu." I also don't see any buttons in my screensaver, so I assume its talking about a keyboard button, but then it doesn't say what button it is. "If you have activated your screensaver and another user wants to log in she or he can simply press the Switch User... button and log into another session."
  3. Soundcard: Esoniq ES1371 Kernel: 2.6.10-1.770_FC3 Distro: Fedora Core 3 Desktop: KDE I have been trying to get aRts working, but I am having trouble getting some programs to work with it. So far I have only gotten xmms to work with it. I tried setting up Gaim with it, but the sounds don't play in gaim when I have music on, then after the music stops, I get flooded with 10 minutes of constant rings from gaim.
  4. Can someone please explain to me how the sound works? I am having major problems. I want to be able to have multiple things playing sound at the same time, I want be able to play a game, listen to mp3's and talk on teamspeak (voice chat program) at the same time, but I can't get more than one to play sound at a time. Please help. Thanks.
  5. Is it possible to set up the screensaver password so that it puts you back at the login screen when you come out of the screensaver. I am using KDE right now in Fedora Core 3 and when the screensaver comes up, it locks the computer so that you need that users password to get out. If someone else wants to use my computer, they need to press the restart button on my case. I just want some way that other people can log in after the screensaver comes on, without having to remove the password protection on the screensaver.
  6. nm, i got it. I just needed to install the glib-devel rpms from my fedora dvd
  7. I keep getting messages saying crap about my glib not being set up right when I try to ./configure xmms (and a few other things). checking for glib-config... no checking for GLIB - version >= 1.2.2... no *** The glib-config script installed by GLIB could not be found *** If GLIB was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in *** your path, or set the GLIB_CONFIG environment variable to the *** full path to glib-config. configure: error: *** GLIB >= 1.2.2 not installed - please install first *** It said to set the path to where ever glib-config is stored. firefox has a GUI installer. When it asks for install path, would I just tell it to install to /usr/bin? I told it to install in /opt/firefox before because I saw some folders for other programs in there and I couldn't start it by typing firefox in shell like I should have been able to. Would I just move the executable to /usr/bin or move all the files in the firefox folder to /usr/bin?
  9. well, if nobody tests it, how are they going to improve and report bugs. I wouldn't use it as your main OS, but install it on an other comp that you don't care about or on a seperate partition.
