I have a standalone drive that I'm trying to access from Linux (Fedora 7).

In Windows, I access this drive by entering "\\netdrive\public" in the Explorer address bar.

I'm new to Linux, but I think I would need to mount this drive using smbmount or mount -smb or something similar; recent googling seems to indicate that smbmnt is no longer in Fedora, so I need to use mount -t cifs instead.

I've tried various parameters with mount -cifs. I think I want to do something like:

Code:

mount -cifs //netdrive/public /mnt/netdrive/public -o username=myname

but I get:

mount error 111 = Connection refused.

Can someone provide some help in configuring this? I'm not sure if the problem is with my use of mount -cifs, or if I'm even seeing the drive on the network.

Thanks in advance!
My LCD monitor shows a double image. How do I correct this?

I usually must turn the power off the monitor and wait about 5 seconds and turn it back on for the image to go away.

With the same monitor, I get no double image under Mac OSX nor with Windows XP.

It is a Samsung SyncMaster 191N monitor and I am using the Fedora 7 distro.
I have tried several times installing fedora 7 and make it fully work in my computer. Even before i can install there's already a problem. The graphic install method wont work. If I click it there wont be any display that would come out. So i tried the text install method. it installed. Then I installed the latest Nvidia Drivers, downloading the RPM package from livna.org. But still, when i startx , the GUI won't come up. The display is the same when I try to install F7 thru graphical install method. Pls. help... My graphics card is an NVIDIA 6800 GS Sonic and my monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 591s. . thanx.
Hello lads and lasses,

I've just gone back to linux again after running OSX for a few years now, and of course I have PPC, so not all software I would like to use runs on PPC, so I thought about getting a new laptop, with Intel of course.

My questions is as following; As I've become spoiled of the slick and simple design from Apple, I wonder if any of you know a nice looking laptop that Fedora supports "out of the box"?

As in, fully support the screen and graphics card, support the (if included) video/dvi out, all the other stuff that makes it usable and of course, the wireless card.

To make it easier, I'm not looking for the most powerful laptop. I just need 12" screen, 1GB RAM, 40GB HDD and 54Mbit wifi will do just fine for me, as long it is good looking, portable and affordable.

Looking forward reading your advice. Thanks in advance.

I got some drivers that just will not install, this is what i do.

step one:

I Press F4 to enter a console

step two:

I type ROOT then my password

step three:

I type INIT 3 to enter level 3

step four:

Then i log into root again

step five:

i type "cd /home/Delta_Echo/Desktop" because thats where i have the .run

step six:

Then i type "sh runme.run" (I named it runme so i could remember it)

step seven:

Now the weird mix between GUI and Test-based come sup, i go through the install.

Then i get a message saying something like "No kernel interface module detected for this driver." i press OK

Then i says "would you like the driver to try to download an interface module from nvidia.com" i press OK

then it says "no kernel interface module detected" "Would you like the driver to compile an interface module?" i press OK

The last driver i tried to install (for an ATI card) did the same thing but that worked.

After i pressed ok it says something like: "cannot compile kernel module" something about"requires kernel-devel or kernel-source"

it sayed ALOT more but i cannot remember...

then a messag sayed install failed and that a log was made..in press ok.

I have downloaded FWcutter, Ndiswrapper, and the Windows Firmware for my card.

The problem is, the HOWTO wants to do a yum command, only i have no internet connection on that computer. So "YUM" wont work.

This is my first time using Linux, so I have no clue what i am doing.

I have a Linksys WMP54G with a Broadcom BCM4306 chipset.

Please help.
I am having some serious problems trying to get netbeans to run on Fedora 7. Actaully everything appears to look ok until I start the application. The gui comes up but nothing else. I get a white background and nothing further works. If anyone gets this to work please let me know how you did it. If you tried to load it and it didn'r work tell me what happened.
