I am not sure whether this is an issue with GNome moreso than with Fedora.

Every time I minimize a window on my desktop, it becomes hidden away from view -- shrinking down into the bottom right corner. I can not reach them with my mouse cursor. How can I correct this problem?

This happened immediately after I removed my bottom panel. Previously, the minimized windows would be accessible in my bottom panel.

now that Fedora 12 (Constantine) has been out for a week or so, I decided it's time to upgrade my Fedora 11 laptop to the new release using Yum.

I'm documenting this in case anyone wants to try doing the same thing.

Backup your data

Before attempting to do this, backup your important data over the network or two an external USB drive. This is incase something goes wrong and you need to format/reinstall. During the backup, take a look at these common F12 bugs to see if any might impact you.

Once all your data is backed up, proceed with the upgrade.

Get the Fedora 12 Release RPMs

Code:

[anyweb@localhost]$ wget ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/Linux/distributions/fedora/linux/releases/12/Fedora/i386/os/Packages/fedora-release-12-1.noarch.rpm

Using Yum to upgrade

Code:

su -

then

Code:

yum clean all

"If you're running newer hardware, there are some definite advantages to installing a 64-bit operating system. But, if you still need to run any 32-bit applications, you'll need to have the 32-bit support libraries installed. Different Linux distros handle this in different ways. For 64-bit Ubuntu, finding the proper 32-bit support packages is a simple matter of opening up the Synaptic Package Manager, and searching for the string 'ia32'. With 64-bit openSuSE, 32-bit support is already built-in, so you don't have to do anything. With Fedora, though, it's a whole different story. Not only are the 32-bit packages not already installed, the Fedora folk don't provide any documentation on how to install them. The directions I found via Google were outdated, and wouldn't work. I finally resolved the problem by asking a Red Hat employee in my local Linux Users Group."
