[root@centos /]# sysctl net.ip4v.tcp_syncookies
error: "net.ip4v.tcp_syncookies" is an unknown key
in Centos 6
the issue may be that I'm following a slightly old manual (2009) which more often refers to Fedora/RHEL and very rarely Centos. the key does exist under the path, I'm looking at it..
Linux mint 13 "Mate"

I have an AMD 6 core CPU but in system monitor it only reports as 1 cpu. It is also heavily loaded at all times over 15 percent at a minimum, before it would show each core and on an idle system It would be odd to see a core jump over 5 percent. So it seems like the system is running on only one core. I have also tried a fresh install.

What are some steps I should take before I go to another distro to see if the problem persist and start wonder if my CPU/Sysboard has gone bad.
I then tried to boot from my usb on my netbook and I am able to get in to the grub menu and as soon as I select boot from LiveDVD SL starts to load and then I get the error: Kernel Panic - not syncen: Attempting to kill init! I'm pretty sure it's some type incompatible hardware thing. I google all around, but I only found answers like made a new live usb, compiled a custom kernel,(can't do that if my os isn't installed) checking bios settings etc. I'm kindda out of options. Any ideas?

i have updated from debian lenny to debian squeeze,

installed a new (custom) kernel to run vservers.

for some reason grub keeps booting the old kernel (i do not have console access, only ssh)

, it should boot Linux 2.6.32-5-vserver-amd64 but it boots Linux 2.6.18-6-vserver-amd64…

when rebooting after installing the first time, the system hung, and i rebooted and the old kernel was loaded i guess, how to reset?

anyone knows?

Thanks in advance!

i have updated from debian lenny to debian squeeze,

installed a new (custom) kernel to run vservers.

for some reason grub keeps booting the old kernel (i do not have console access, only ssh)

, it should boot Linux 2.6.32-5-vserver-amd64 but it boots Linux 2.6.18-6-vserver-amd64…

when rebooting after installing the first time, the system hung, and i rebooted and the old kernel was loaded i guess, how to reset?

anyone knows?

Thanks in advance!
Hello,

I'm new here, and i figured this should be here.

I'm running windows 7 and ubuntu, and i tried to add Chromium OS.

I followed the instructions here: http://chromeos.hexxeh.net/wiki/doku.php?id=multiboot

Everything seems to work out, but then when i try to boot it from Burg (with Grub 2) it hangs on this:

decompressing linux... parsing elf... done.

Booting the kernel.

_

The underscore is still blinking, but there doesnt seem to be any progress so i turned the system off after something like half an hour.

What am i doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,
KQ Infotech Pvt. Ltd. is responsible for spamming many Linux forums. Being a clueless company, KQ believes that spamming forums advertising the company's capabilities will raise awareness of the company and drive visitors to their site. We are also firm believers in talking about ourselves in the third person, because it sounds more unbiased.

KQ’s expertise in understanding how customers react to their first post contributing nothing of value to any forums greatly undermines any standing they have in the Linux community. After dedicated effort, we have finally created a product that is available for the selected beta customers, but rather than alert those selected beta customers by using an email circular or our own customer forums, we feel the best way of communicating this information is to spam the hell out of every forum possible. Please log on to our website to apply to become one of these selected beta customers in the vain hope you will be selected, despite the fact we have already mentioned we have selected them so you've missed the boat, I'm afraid, but we can still demonstrate how effective spamming forums is. We don't work like most open-source communities that put their products live on sourceforge or available for public testing, we require that you jump through hoops to register yourself through the beta form in order to get the code for testing. Once you fill the form, we have your details, and one of our representatives will be contacting you by spamming forums once again.

As we are selecting a batch of 25 beta customers from different testing environments, please await until we get at least this number, since we have no beta testers nor public forums of our own. To allow proper support bandwidth for beta customers, we have limited the batch to 25, because we are crap at capacity planning and have no concept of using anything like torrents or network peering to make the data available. We would be increasing the bandwidth as and by the beta matures, because we treat you as paying customers, and not as testers, so expect to pay something to cover the cost of our bandwidth. We are in the process of selecting our first batch of customers, so please register yourself through the form now, otherwise we won't have any testers (sorry, customers) to run our tests.

Thank all search engines for indexing this forum post, and for showing just how many times KQ has spammed numerous forums and had their post pulled.
Hey dudes!

Is broadcom support native nowadays?

I want to install linux again, but I want to know if broadcom is supported natively.

Also my question is, is the Intel 915GM supported properly yet?

So far I have tried several distro's but none of em support lower resolutions, which I need to play some windows games. (Vice City and The Sims mostly)

Ok so I am complete Noob to this (well not complete) and I have tried so hard to install VMware tools so my resolution will be better than 800x600.

So far I have extracted the .tar.gz to a folder I like.

I navigated to the .pl (perl) file I need to run to install the tools.

It starts running and I follwed the instructions that the "Read_Me" file said to accept all default locations to install. So I did that and came up with a question that,

asked me to find where the Kernel files with C something was, so I found THAT and typed the folder location as needed and got this error

Linux_VMWare_problem.bmp

IF you could give me some clue as the next step I can take, I would really appreciate it. (Oh i cannot spell really well either)

I wanted to experience even more power and learn more about linux.

So, (after some advice from a friend) i decided to try Linux Gentoo (AMD64).

So i printed the gentoo handbook (the whole thing 0.o) from gentoo.org and burned a livecd.

I followed the instruction in the handbook, I manually configured the kernel. Then i went to compile. (using make)

I get a compiling error. Something like this: "internal compiler error: segmentation fault". I think thats it, i couldn't copy and paste

The odd thing is, when i repeated this a few times the error will occur in different places.

But it always fail, Different places each time. Almost at random?

This is the first time i have tried to install a linux distro this complex. And the first time i have compiled the kernel.

So, im really lost.

Thanks :-)

thanks to Randall for assistance with this

here's how,

verify that you have the following installed in your distro (if it supports it)

rpm-devel, curses, ncurses-devel and gcc and required deps.

Once done, download the latest stable kernel from http://www.kernel.org

currently that is 2.6.23.9

once downloaded, unzip the file

Code:

bunzip2 kernel

then cd to the new kernel directory

then untar it with

Code:

tar xvpf kernel

then prepare it for compiling...

Code:

make clean && make mrproper

now we want to copy over default settings from a shipped kernel to the new one we will compile

Code:

cp /boot/config-`uname -r` ./.config

where uname -r is the value from your current kernel eg:

Quote:[root@localhost ~]# uname -r2.6.23.1-49.fc8

now that you have copied over the 'default settings' from the shipped kernel lets configure the new one by

Code:

make menuconfig

then do a

Code:

make rpm

the above will only make an RPM file of the new kernel for you, if you wanted to test that kernel you'd have to install the rpm as normal.

If you want to make the kernel the 'normal' way then do as follows

Code:

make
make modules_install
make install

thanks to Randall for assistance with this

here's how,

verify that you have the following installed in your distro (if it supports it)

rpm-devel, curses, ncurses-devel and gcc and required deps.

Once done, download the latest stable kernel from http://www.kernel.org

currently that is 2.6.23.9

once downloaded, unzip the file

Code:

bunzip2 kernel

then cd to the new kernel directory

then untar it with

Code:

tar xvpf kernel

then prepare it for compiling...

Code:

make clean && make mrproper

now we want to copy over default settings from a shipped kernel to the new one we will compile

Code:

cp /boot/config-`uname -r` ./.config

where uname -r is the value from your current kernel eg:

Quote:[root@localhost ~]# uname -r2.6.23.1-49.fc8

now that you have copied over the 'default settings' from the shipped kernel lets configure the new one by

Code:

make menuconfig

then do a

Code:

make rpm

the above will only make an RPM file of the new kernel for you, if you wanted to test that kernel you'd have to install the rpm as normal.

If you want to make the kernel the 'normal' way then do as follows

Code:

make
make modules_install
make install

I use MythDora 4 (Fedora Core 6 with MythTV distribution). Basically, in order to set the wake up time I set the clock, then I have to have system reboot into a kernel that halts the system so the clock in bios gets set properly. I had this working before in FC 5. But now it doesn't seem to like it anymore.

Code:

echo "savedefault --default=1 --once quit" | grub

I get an error 15: file not found.

My grub.conf:

Code:

default saved
default=0
timeout=10
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
 halt

For laughs I added the below after halt. This stopped the error 15, but default was still 0 at top.

Hey all,

I have the following smart card reader; O2Micro OZ711SP1 running with the 2.6.23.1 kernel. I looked on (http://www.linuxnet.com/sourcedrivers.html) which

provide the O2Micro Smartcardbus PCMCIA Smartcard Reader driver however, it does not support the 2.6.23.1 kernel because of the changes made

to PCMCIA.

Does anyone have any suggestions on getting this working?
