Hey folks,

I'm having a weird error and I know what is it. Okay, here's the situation itself. I've used to use winxp and I was satisfied enough, until one day I played with registry and I bet you already imagine what has happened. As far as I remember, I've added a new .reg into a registry and nothing changed (seemed like nothing changed ), so after shutdowning my pc I had to start it again (hey, everyone does that) and here comes the screen where I need to choose what should I load. Ubuntu or WinXp. As always I've chosen winXP and kaboom blue screen telling me 'BAD_POOL_CALLER' after googleing for some time, I've found out that it was supposed to be RAM problems. However, it wasn't, then after talking to few people I've relised that it was registry problem, acutally corrupted registry. W00t I thought, let's fix it. I've inserted winxp CD, and clicked R to repair, gues what? "BAD_POOL_CALLER" once again, I was like so the situation is: I can't repair/install/etc my windows and I'm using Ubuntu now. Installed wine, downloaded some registry fixers, none of them were working, so what do I need to do is to fix my windows registry with Ubuntu.

Anyone has any clue how to do that?

Thanks in advance,

Is there possibly a skin I could use?

DCOM is a a very little used technology that has been built into the

Windows operating system so as to allow the various software components

to inter-operate across any network... worms and viruses....

DCOM in Windows XP has always been a bad idea! It is a potential source

for trouble.

You see DCOM is a new name for the old OLE.

OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) was a bad idea that Microsoft tried to make happen... Now they call it DCOM...

How Do You Disable DCOM in Windows XP..?

1. Click Start menu, and then click the Run icon.

2. Then egedit then click the OK button.

3. You Must go to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\OLE

4. Now You will see there is a String Value called: EnableDCOM

5. Set the value to: N (it should currently be Y)

6. Close the Registry Editor. Shutdown and Restart your computer.

7. That's it

Note: This has been tested only for LAN user's but it probebly work's anywere .

Good Luck.

hi guys

look at the enclosed pic,

i have two 'networks' at home

both have their own ADSL modem internet connection, and different IP address

the network (a.) has several small computers running and connected to the big box (server)

I want the computer on (b.) to have access to the server on (a.) locally (100mb/s) so that file copying operations are fast and transparent,

I'm guessing that shoving a second network card into that box will allow me to do that,

however, if i do that, won't the network (b.) pick up the internet connection from (a.) ?

how do I only grant b.) LAN connection and deny it internet connections from (a.)

windows boxes !

cheers

So I finally decided to switch back to my xp harddrive and battle the viruses. I cleaned them up thanks to www.trendmirco.com but they've left a little damage. Exe files wont run anymore without circumventing some things...

Double-clicking an exe file, using a shortcut to it, or attempting to run it from the run dialogue gives an error "Windows cannot find '[file]'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."

However, I can get around this by right-clicking it, using "run as" and using any setting in there.

I have no idea whats up with that, I'll probably end up reformatting it anyway, but I'd like to fix it first--it would save me the trouble of trying to burn a xp copy and install it under a seperate partition on my good (linux) hardrive. Any tips here would be appreciated.
