Sound Blaster Audigy Problems

Recommended Posts

I recently installed Fedora Core 3 to expierment with it. Unfortunately I am unable to get sound.

Kernel - 2.6.11-1.14_FC3

SoundCard - Sound Blaster Audigy

It detected the soundcard without a problem but when tyring to use xmms to get sound nothing happens. I went into the control center i tried hitting the test sound but nothing happened.

Screenshot of my info center displaying the sound information:

Screenshot of my xmms configuration:

Creative's website doesn't list a driver for my Audigy card but I figured a fairly popular card such as the audigy would work in Linux. I also tried using my onboard sound (nForce2 chipset) but that also failed to play back anything so I removed the configuration. Any help is much appreciated!

EDIT-- Also note that I did do the *fix* to get mp3's to play properly in xmms.

I had this problem recently. It may be what I was dealing with. It's easy to fix if it is though.I have an audigy also and this worked for me.

Go to xterm or command line. Type alsamixer. If you see an M or something like that at the top of a volume control move over to that column with the <- and -> keys and press M to unmute them. You may have to do this for several "categories". I recently built a fresh Suse 9.3 box and for some reason all my stuff was muted in alsamixer. Also you may wanna adjust the volume settings as you see fit by pressing the up and down keys.

Hope it works.

I've got the same card, and nothing is muted, and I have to plug my speakers into the Blue port (subwoofer?) and I hear some sound, but its really distorted and alot of static in it, but when I plug the speakers into the normal port its supposed to be in, the green one, I get nothing, I had problems with old soundcard, now I'm having problems with what is supposed to be a popular soundcard...

as henrydcase already suggested try this:-

do the following as root in a console

su -

then type

alsamixer

using your RIGHT cursor key, scroll over the entire way to the RIGHT as in the attached screenshot

press letter 'm' to unmute if muted, then try playing a sound

if that doesnt work, try each and every volume device listed in alsamixer

good luck

cheers
