JRE problems in Ubuntu
#1

I formatted my (previously windows) HDD today and installed ubuntu. I know nothing about linux OSs really and the files system is beyond me atm, but im getting there.

Im a member of an invision power board (much like this ;) ) that has live chat enabled, which I would like to get working. I went into the synaptic package manager, did the stuff it told me to on the ubuntu site, and downloaded and installed the JRE plugin.

Now when I click on live chat, the loading bar comes up, but when it gets to the top, FF closes :(. And not just that window, if I have another FF window opens, it shuts that too :(

Can anyone help????

Also, is a different distibution better for total linux noobs?

hi and welcome to the forums

did you try the following http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-23592.html ?

if so were there any errors reported ?

are you having a java problem in firefox or an IPB forums issue ?

as regards a better distro for noobs, i'd recommend Fedora Core Release 5

cheers
