| I can detect wireless but I can not connect |

I have no idea wjhere to start trouble shooting my problem.
My wireless card is able to detect wireless signals but I can not connect to them. I get a pop up window that asks me to enter the security passkey. I am sure I am entering the right one, I double checked the router security settings through a wired connection. However, the icon whirls around for a few seconds and then gives me the same pop up window again asking for the passkey. I can not connect to open networks either.
I am using Fedora 13 and this developed after recent updates from about two weeks ago.

| create a USB restore key of my installation? |

I am not sure how to ask or even what to ask. I imagine there might be many ways to accomplish this.
What I want is to be able to restore my linux installation from a USB key.
I am not concerned about backing up my /home directory. I am only concerned with reproducing my software and drivers as they are currently set up now on my computer. To best illustrate my aim, I guess what I want is what live-usb-creator can do: install my set up to hard drive. Is this possible?
I am using fedora 13 with an Eee1000 solid state. My partitioning is thus:
first drive:
/boot
/
second drive:
swap
/home

hi all,
well i logged on this morning to see a 'database driver error' here on the site, and the usual fixes didn't help, after trying many things i had to resort to restoring yesterdays MYSQL backup for linux-noob.com
the end result of that is it has resovled the database issue, but it may mean that a post (or posts made between yesterday and today) are lost
I apologise for that and thank you for your patience
cheers

Hello Linux-Noobs!
Firstly thanks for having this website up and running, provided some very essential reading for a first time Linux user like me.
Getting down to business... I would class myself as an Intermediate/Advanced user of Windows systems (Home Admin). My family have all been using Windows XP since its release, and now Windows 7 has been introduced. I see this as the perfect opportunity to introduce Linux into the mix. However I am having some issues.
The HDD's:
Hard Disk 1 150gb (4 Paritions) [Disk 0]
Hard Disk 2 150gb (2 Paritions) [Disk 1]
The Partitions:
Code: Disk 0:
(primary) 30GB FAT32 WINDOWS-XP
(primary) 90GB NTFS WINDOWS-7
(primary) 10GB EXT3 LINUXROOT
(logical) 20GB EXT3 LINUXHOME
Disk 1:
(primary) 145GB NTFS HDD-STORAGE
(primary) 2GB SWAP
The problem:
The problem is, I cannot get Kubuntu 10 to install. I can get both Windows installs to run fine, dual boot etc. When I install Kubuntu it messes up the boot and doesn't let me load Windows. It gave me a Hal.dll error. I have been formatting, partitioning, installing, re-formatting for the past 2 days trying to get an order which will work. I believe I needed to install XP first, then Windows 7, then Kubuntu 10, if I have the order wrong please tell me. Something about Windows 7 writing to the MBR I think it was.
I would say I am almost there, I have all the partitions setup, all the installs, everything burned to discs. Just need some Linux install experience please guys/girls.
Notes:
PS, Is it too hard to have all 3 (multi-boot)? Like:
1. Windows XP
2. Windows 7
3. Kubuntu 10
Also, I have tried and tested each one individually to make sure the discs are ok and installs are ok, they all work fine on their own.
Also, before I get flamed for putting a SWAP on a separate HDD I was told it would be a good idea as the HDD head on disk0 doesn't have to move around as much, also I would be able to read/write simultaneously? Slightly better performance?
Somebody, anybody?
EDIT: Attached a screen dump of Disk Management window.

I am doing a project with my friend, and i need a program on Linux and on Windows XP and i can't run them at the same time. I was wondering if there was any way i could boot Windows off of the drive instead of switching back and forth, taking up to ten minutes at a time.
Thanks!

Hey guys! Nice to meet you all! My real name is Ma'at! I hail from Columbus, Ohio. I'm 16 years young and I'm now a senior in high school! and some of you may be wondering "How does a young blood know about Linux? And let alone use it?" Well let me tell you. I'm a computer nerd. I <3 working with them and fooling around with them. Pretty much my whole life I've grew up On a Windows OS. I've hated Macs w/a passion(and still do). So far my windows knowledge extends up to Xp. I'm pretty sure that I'm a semi-advanced xp user. So let me tell you how I got interested in the Penguin. A couple years back Me and my uncle were talking about operating systems and mentioned to me linux. I was trying to enter the "Pro PC gamer" scene. I don't know any pro linux gamers so, My disposition on linux was generally negative and I was like, "Ugh, Linux? Who plays Battlefield 2 let alone Counter-Strike on linux?" So I strayed away from Linux for a year after that. Another 6 months later, I started dipping my toes into linux. I tried out Distros (I'm not quite sure on this help me out here) like Kde and ubuntu. Still wasn't interested. I'm a visual kinda guy, I have a quirk for judging an os's incredibility by its Gui and I was not very impressed with the gui's for both of those distros(help me again still not sure if this is this is the right word). So another 6 months later we're where we are now. I got a wii for christmas and a started hacking and modding it 4 months ago. This summer I didn't get the well-paying job I wanted so I decide to turn to my side job and rewrite articles. This job I normally use a computer for this and ever since I made a transition from homeschooling to brick and mortar I've had to return the Pc my school supplied me with. That was the fastest pc in the house. I have two other computers in my home and both are frustratingly slow. I get temper tantrums trying to run Ms office on one. 2 weeks ago I heard of wii linux and I remembered that there was a word processor, OpenOffice, for linux. I figured "Hey! If I get linux for my wii, then I can use my hard drive that I mount my wii games from to install OpenOffice on it! No more mooching my grand parents to use their slow comps!" Here's the thing, I knew next to nothing about linux. So a few hours ago I google "linux for noobs" First result led me to linux-noob.com. I read for about an hour about linux basics, building my vocabulary with words like 'kernel' and 'distribution'. Being the passionate learner, I start getting excited about this Idea of what linux really is: A huge tub of legos to build the ultimate toy car I want! And yes, I read the "Linux is not Windows" thread, the lego analogy made me laugh, being a lego fan.
Anyways, my first distro will be a Wii-linux GUI based Gentoo distribution called xWhiite. After I install xWhiite I'm gonna install Ubuntu on one of my old computers and experiment with it. I'm really now glad to think of myself as a part of a linux open-source community, kinda like a family! Thanks again for having me here!
P.S.: OMG! This took an hour to write using a wiimote! See how badly I need to turn my wii into a comp by installing linux? But first I need to get a usb keyboard. ^-^
