Printer sharing
#1

Hello, I have been having a difficult time getting my xp-home to work with samba. Come to find out XP-home is not wired to work with samba, from what I have found out by googling. All I want to do is share the printer on my linux box(suse 9.2) with xp-home. Is this going to be impossible with xp-home?

If not I would really like to know the trick.

Also, is there a way I can remote into suse from xp-home. I would like to run an app on suse from xp-home.

Thanks for your advice.

I don't know about the first one, but you can certainly do this. You can download Real VNC for Linux and install it on your SUSE box and then use the RealVNC Windows client to connect to it. Both downloads are free and here.

In short, WinXP Home has been crippled by MS and there is no way within Home to get around this. Plainly this has been done to force users into buying Pro (more money!).

I have heard about successful work arounds with some utilities, one that came up was X-Setup (a XP hack util):

Going

Network -> Auto Login -> Windows NT/2K/XP -> Settings

Should let you specify a domain, this should let you work with samba. :)

Allright .

Thanks for the advice and help. I will definatley check out the VNC stuff tonite. I hope I have better luck with that.

As for samba and xp-home, I guess I will just walk away from that.

Thank you.
