Linux compatible ethernet cards?

Im downloading Redhat 9.0 now to try it out and I read you need to have a modem compadible with Linux and I have DSL so do I have to buy a new ethernet card? And if so which 1?

i'm not sure about the modem, i use cable an it has never been a problem, dsl mod's might be differant but i doubt it call your provider and ask whats up, if theyre anything like comcast they'll whine about how they don't support linux and you should run a win box. just smile nod an repeat your question, they'll get the hint. . As for the ethernet card, your probably fine with what you have. I've had numerous cards in my box and they all worked without problem.

since your new to linux, i'd also recommend try fedora instead of red hat, the name sucks but i like the os better and red hat isnt really being supported on a non enterprise level anymore. Hope some of this babbling help you out.

Well actually im going to be behind a router so would Redhat or fedora have a problem with that. Sry for the dumb questions but im totaly new to linux.

it shouldnt have any problems

 

but you should really try fedora core release 2

 

redhat 9 is eol (end of life) meaning no more support or updates (since may 2004)

Ok thanks for the help, Ill try Fedora out as soon as I can thanks. And sence I have a 64 bit processor is there any special drivers or anything I need if I get the 64 bit version?

should work okay though I don't believe Fedora has a fully 64-bit exdended release... I know SuSE does... and SuSE is also a good beginners distro... Good luck ;)
