expanding the sites potential
#1

hi @ all

well i want to expand things here and here are some of my thoughts on getting more members and keeping them

* blogs (need to get some blogging software, pls recommend something...)

* subdomains to those who want them eg: mcduck.linux-noob.com or jy.linux-noob.com

* expand on the newest sections of linux-noob.com namely

https://www.linux-noob.com/screenshots

https://www.linux-noob.com/review

http://video.linux-noob.com (hosted elsewhere, currently only vista videos)

http://tutorials.linux-noob.com (under construction)

any other ideas welcome, for example yourname@linux-noob.com email ?

how to implement all this, lemme know !

cheers

screenshots, this is important.. shows the users what they can do with the look, eye candy draws everyone B)

blogs, hrmm, well always reading them, not so sure about writing them though....

subdomains, nice idea, several users may take advantage of a ptr to personal machines :)

review, here is me writing one at the moment, this will be good to give users a taste of how more experienced users view the distributions.

video, hehe when did this sneak in? o_O windows videos? well gives a taster. i can see this being a nice thing.. sort of like the screenshots...

tutorials, this i like, it allows users to simply find information, hopefully help them consider signing up..

Hi,

Yea emails such as yorname@linux-noob.com will be good I wouldn't mine one :)

The idea of mail will make people sign up, but it depends on

what will be offered. i.e.

Size of mailbox?

POP3 etc

well, there's a free webmail service, gawab.net so you wouldn't have to worry about setting up the service on your machine, for free, they give you 4mb space for each user, which i think is unlimited, but i doubt it, but you have to pay for pop3 access.. i have the service running for my domain if you want to check it out.

I think the idea of out sourcing defeats the purpose.. no?

well, not exactly. but i see your point, the thing is users won't notice they left the site since the login form can be integrated in the site (so you have to visit the site if you want to login) and when they sign out it will redirect them to the originating site, and some other stuff.
