Using external mouse instead of touchpad
#1

Hi All,

I just installed ubuntu for the first time on an old Dell laptop I had. I was surprised how easy and smooth it was. Amazing!

The only problem I encountered: I have an external mouse plugged in, but it does not work, the built-in touchpad works OK, but I'd rather use the external mouse. Any idea how I can make the exteral mouse work (instead or in addition to the built-in touchpad)

By the way, he laptop is a Dell Inspiron 7000 (bought around 1998, if I remember right). It was very slow under Windows, but it is fantastic under ubuntu...

Thanks,

Cemil

dunno about ununtu but its automatic in fedora core release 6, external mouse or touchpad both work fine

have you tried checking your bios settings for the touchpad,

its likely you can switch between touchpad/touchpad+mouse or mouse

is it an usb mouse or ps/2 ?

cheers
