  Ubuntu boot problem
Posted by: Varjagy - 2007-06-12, 02:18 PM - Forum: Ubuntu - Replies (6)

Well, now I have tinkered a bit to much for my own good. When I try to boot I get these messages:

init: Unable to execute "/bin/sh" for rcS: No such file or directory

init: rcS main process (2397) terminated with status 255

init: Unable to execute "/bin/sh" for rc-default: No such file or directory

init: rc-default main process (2398) terminated with status 255

I need a really noobish explanation on how to fix.

  safari windows web browser in linux via wine ?

tried installing twice, first time locked up when i went with the defaults

Quote:fixme:msi:ACTION_CustomAction msidbCustomActionTypeNoImpersonate not handledfixme:msi:ACTION_CustomAction msidbCustomActionTypeNoImpersonate not handled

fixme:msi:MsiGetMode 1 5

fixme:msi:ACTION_CustomAction msidbCustomActionTypeNoImpersonate not handled

fixme:msi:ACTION_CustomAction Rollback only action... rollbacks not supported yet

I cancelled that install and tried again, this time did not select bonjour or the autoupdater, this time it installed, but no wine icon for it. I ran it by cli., and it produced errors.

Code:
anyweb@anyweb-laptop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Safari$ wine Safari.exe
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk "MSVCR80.dll" failed to initialize, aborting
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\Program Files\\Safari\\Safari.exe" failed, status c0000142

  A stable nVidia Linux driver for GF5900XT
Posted by: MheAd - 2007-06-11, 03:50 PM - Forum: How Do I? - Replies (1)

Hi.

I'm quite tired of experimenting with different kinds of drivers in Fedora to get smooth and jerky-free GL/graphic.

I've tested different Livna drivers, 96xx seem to be least bad choice - but far away from perfect. While 96xx tends to give me quite stuttering GL graphics (eg. when I test GLGears or have a GL-screensaver on) when something else is happening (eg. graphic changes in a torrent client or somebody sends me a PM through Pidgin) while in latest 97-drivers I basically get slow motion. The older Legacy drivers, on the other hand, don't seem to be supporting GLX.

So, I guess I have no other choice but jumping onto drivers found on nVidia's official website, hoping to get a stable set of drivers, suitable for my Geforce 5900XT.

Can you guys give me some tips about older stable drivers (including GL support). I figure the latest are not always the best choice, especially since my card is quite outdated.

Thanks in advance!

  Easy Network Problem
Posted by: Armchang - 2007-06-11, 01:28 PM - Forum: Network Problems - No Replies

hi!

I have an easy network problem for ya all!

I am trying to do a peer to peer network on two pc's. I've installed dual boot OS on both pc's. Each, having a Windows XP and SUSE Linux 10.1. Now, I tried to install Samba on Linux in the first pc and booted windows XP on the second. I've done a static configuration on both pc's and finally got to see the network on both pc's using CLI(terminal) and File Browser applications.

Now, my next objective is to network the two with SUSE Linux OS using the same settings as above but changing the OS on the second pc to SUSE. I've done initial settings on the second pc to connect to the Samba server but I have no success yet. In the Samba server (1st pc), I could already see the network group (using File Browser--> Network Servers) but the server is the only pc that exists inside. I could ping on both pc's, no problem on the CLI(terminal) on both sides. The only problem is, I couldn't get to see the second computer on the File Browser application.

Settings:

1st pc:

Hostname = THE_SERVER

IP Address = 192.168.0.1

Subnet mask = 255.255.255.0

Workgroup = Linuxwindow

2nd pc:

Hostname = linuxzf8

IP Address = 192.168.0.6

Subnet mask = 255.255.255.0

Workgroup = Linuxwindow

Thank you...
