  Microsoft Virtual Server
Posted by: kZo - 2006-07-01, 06:57 PM - Forum: Virtual Server - Replies (1)

Purpose:

The purpose of this forum is to answer questions, give coding help/aid, and provide a firm foundation to build your Virtual Server environment.

Background:

Virtual Server is a relatively new product that was released to compete with VMware. It allows you to run many different operating systems under one base system. For example, if you have a beefy system you can run Linux O/S, Windows O/S and FreeBSD all on top of your Windows XP system.

Currently I have one Linux server (Ubuntu), two Windows servers (Win 2003 Ent. and NT 4.0) as of which are running on Windows XP with 2GB of memory. Pending on your hardware you can do whatever

Okay, I am just getting in to Linux, and I've decided to go wih Fedora. I've played with Knoppix and Ubuntu but fedora is by far the most popular and probably the best distrobution where I'll find help.

How do I compile/install?

  verifying MD5SUMS of ISO's in k3b
Posted by: anyweb - 2006-06-29, 11:57 AM - Forum: Linux - No Replies

check this out, if you double click on an ISO file to burn it to cd, k3b now computes the MD5SUM before you start burning so that you can abort the process if you wish (if the MD5sum's don't match up)

neat !

cheers

  playing video... in Suse 10.1
Posted by: kabifff - 2006-06-28, 05:31 AM - Forum: SUSE - Replies (3)

So.....ummmm........... this "friend" of mine can't watch movies in his Suse 10.1 Laptop because of codec issues, how would I.... I mean he be able to watch movies in it?

Seriously though, I can't even get a DVD to play in suse. None of my downloaded movies will work in Suse, and I have to boot into windows just to watch the movies I took with my digital camera. How do I load DivX, AVI, MPEG4 files and such in a way that they'll load? I really am going nuts without my multi-media, and I spose I'd be dying if I were really into porn, but I've got better things to spend my time on, like learning how to use this blasted OS so I don't have to rely on Mister Gates to run my PCs.

  I need help...
Posted by: Jion_Wansu - 2006-06-24, 06:18 PM - Forum: Package Management - Replies (9)

I tried installing ndiswrapper-1.18 with Konsole (SUSE 10.0) and I get this:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

linux:/home/juergen/ndiswrapper-1.18 # make install

make -C driver install

make[1]: Entering directory `/home/juergen/ndiswrapper-1.18/driver'

Can't find kernel build files in /lib/modules/2.6.13-15-default/build;

give the path to kernel build directory with

KBUILD=<path> argument to make

make[1]: *** [prereq_check] Error 1

make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/juergen/ndiswrapper-1.18/driver'

make: *** [install] Error 2

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also when I try to install VMware I get the message that gcc and gcc+ not configured. Where can I install or download gcc and gcc+

Here is what it says:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

linux:/home/juergen # rpm -qa kernel* gcc* make

kernel-default-nongpl-2.6.13-15

kernel-update-tool-0.9-10

make-3.80-188

kernel-default-2.6.13-15

linux:/home/juergen #

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Where can I get kernel-source, gcc, and gcc-c++ packages.

Suse 10.1 has an awesome interface.....
Posted by: kabifff - 2006-06-23, 04:58 AM - Forum: SUSE - Replies (2)

Where is this fabled openGL interface or whatever it's called, where do I find it, and how do I turn it on? I'd google it, but "OpenGL" just brings up a bunch of gobbledygook, and I'm not even sure that's what it's called.

Ideas?

  suse 10.1 webcam driver difficulty
Posted by: shadowphone - 2006-06-19, 01:19 PM - Forum: SUSE - Replies (2)

Hello. I have a Logitech pro 4000 webcam that I tried to get working in kde under suse 10.1. I managed to get it working for a time, I installed this pwc driver by doing make, then make install.

it looked great, i viewed my camera under kdetv. Then for some reason after a time it stopped working, and i only see a blue image now. I tried reinstalling the driver but i can't get it to work. I think the stock driver might be interfering with the pwc driver i installed.

if this is the case i'm not sure how to remove it, and correct the issue. i'm not even sure if this is the problem. any help would be appreciated. I don't know what to do now. if i type lsmod i see "pwc" listed. when I boot up in the boot screen it shows my webcam as detected logitech pro 4000 on /dev/video0 i believe.

thanks in advance.
