Hey all... I already posted this on LQ and haven't gotten much help though a couple of people have the same problem...
Quote:[Copied from my post on LQ]I spent all day yesterday downloading Fedora Core 2 and just burnt the ISO's after I got home.... Tried to install on my notebook..
HP pavilion ze5270
P4 2.4GHz
40 GB HD
DVD/CDRW
Internal Floppy
etc...
Currently running FC1 fully updated... running perfect.... I use it for developing ColdFusion applications....
When I try to install Fedora Core 2... I get the usual boot screen... push enter..
Get the screen to specify language and installation source (text based not GUI screen) and after specifying installation source as CDROM (which is what I just booted off of) it says:
The Fedora Core CD was not found in any of your CDROM drives. Please insert the Fedora Core CD and press OK to retry.
I saw another post that someone had on redhat's website with the same problem on a Dell inspirion with FC2 Test2 and he ran ide=nodma at boot and it worked... no luck here.... any suggestions would be great... I'm REALLY looking forward to FC2!
Thanks!
I don't know what's up with this... I've tried boot params just as "ide-nodma" and "allowcddma" as suggested.. neither work... it's really bummin me out... anyweb, you seem like a pretty experienced fedora guru... but if you didn't run into this problem than you probably don't know how to fix it eh? Any help is greatly appreciated... I have to go to work... but I'll be checking back around 8:00...

Hey guys just incase you want to use the rpm kernel instead of the vanilla kernel, I was able to get nvidia drivers to work on a modified fedora kernel .
http://www.lyricnz.com/linux/patches/nvidia/
this is the link where i got the kernel and kernel-source from.
the link also have a script and a patch to make a kernel src.rpm patched properly so that nvidia drivers would work under a fedora kernel. note that you have to modify some lines in the patch and the script according to the kernel src.rpm version you have.
I tried the kernel 2.6.6 series patched it with the script provided from the link but i was unable to get fedora to boot properly. I get stuck on the uncompressing linux part. the patch may need some more modification to work on kernel 2.6.6. you guys may wanna try on 2.6.5 kernels to see if it works.
the kernel and kernel-source from the link though works with nvidia drivers very good though.

Hi all.
First time here at the forums here. I like what I see.
Here's my story, I have always used Windows, Im pretty comfortable with it. However I have 3 pc's at my home, and have decided that I want to see what all the linux fuss is about. I like everything I have read about it so far, the info seems endless!! Anyhow, I have a PIII, 700 mhz, 256MB Ram, 20GB HD, sony vaio that is just sitting around, and would like to experiment with Fedora on it. My download is in progress now, bout an hour left till i burn ISO to disc.
Currently, I have Windows Xp on the sony, when I install Fedora will I have the option to totally reformat my hard drive? I dont want to run both OS on it.
ALso , did I make the right choice in Fedora? I wanted to get one of the major players so to speak, and thought RedHat, would only make sense.
Any advice would be greatly helpful, this is a totally new experience for me!!
Thanks all.

| Installing NVU |

If you haven't heard of NVU and you do webdesign.. well then you are missing out. the people that brough us lindows created a really nice web design tool to target all the windows webdesigners who say they'd switch if it wasn't for the lack of a good web design tool in linux. Yes you can run dreamweaver in wine.. but its slow and some features just don't work at all. So here is how you install NVU
you want to make sure you have these rpms install
Code: gcc
libIDL
libIDL-devel
libstdc++-devel
compat-gcc-c++
gcc-c++
compat-libstdc++
compat-libstdc++-devel
libstdc++
cvs
once you have those rpms installed.. its time to install NVU. This is built off the mozilla 1.7b cvs source code. So you will run these commands
Code: mkdir mozilla
cd mozilla
cvs -d :pserver:anonymous@cvs-mirror.mozilla.org:/cvsroot co mozilla/client.mk
wget http://www.nvu.com/download/linux/.mozconfig
make -f client.mk pull_all
wget http://www.nvu.com/download/nvu-0.20-source.tar.gz
tar xfz nvu-0.20-source.tar.gz
wget http://www.nvu.com/download/trunk-0.20.patch.gz
gunzip trunk-0.20.patch.gz
patch -p 0 < trunk-0.20.patch
make -f client.mk build_all
now its compiled you can try to run
if you want to install it simply run make install and it should install nvu into /usr/local/bin
below are two sample screenshots
