Problem with The Penguin Sleuth Kit |

I am very interested into Knoppix since it works great on my computer and I was downloading other derivatives of this. So I downloaded Penguin Sleuth and I get black screen. My Monitor just like flickers, I hear the sound and i feel that it loads up just as it should. It says that saying "activation secence started" or whatever so i think that it works fine. but i think it doesn't recongnize my graphics card. I noticed one thing that alerts me, sleuthis KDE 3.2 and knoppix is KDE 3.3. I think thats a different update. Can anyone confirm this? If that is the problem i probably can't fix it since im running it from the disk but if there is a command prompt string that i can put in, if you could kindly let me know that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bryon
P.S. I am new to forms and stuff. so if I leave anything out let me konw and i will back with you as fast as I can.
Thanks

Dual Booting With Redhat9 and Windows XP |

Hi,
I am new to this but i was thinking about dual booting my Windows XP with RedHat9 Linux. I was told "that my computer is working great why give it a reason to mess up" and i agree with that so I talked to a techie person. She said that once you dual boot windows and linux, even if they are on different partitions they will be intermixed and it will work but down the road after the constant updates they will start to blend together and wont beable to be seperated unless I reformat it. So i have a nf7-s and i was thinking can i install another hard drive onto my SATA and have it work in parallel with my 2 IDE harddrives (1x80gigz & 1x120gigz). So i was thinking if i buy a seagate and put redhat9 on my SATA then maybe i could dual boot it from there and have linux on its own hd. but i don't know much about SATA or Linux and i don't want to mess anything up. Plus I don't know if i can start up with SATA with IDE configered. I would love for some people to respond and maybe write me a Guide what to do, or some Facts about SATA and IDE and DUAL BOOTING and if they can work together.
Thanks alot,
Bryon

Login Error |

I have been try to resolve this problem since I installed Fedora, I am not quite sure what it is but would like that error message to go away everytime i login. Here is the error message i revieve upon logging in:
Could not look up internet address for (My Host) Thsi will prevent GNOME from operating correctly. It may be possible to correct the problem by adding (My Host) to /etc/hosts.
I have added my host to the hosts file using Gedit, even so nothing changed the error message again popped up during the next login. I also added my ip instead of the host name, again nothing changed, if you have any tips tricks or can solve the problem I would greatly appreciate it.

hello all
I recently have installed mandrake9.2 and before that I had both fedora and windows installed in my computer. but after installing mandrake it allows me to boot either in windows or mandrake but dont show me anything abt fedora.
How to see all of them?
It(mandrakes lilo) shows something like:
linux(/boot/vmlinuz)
linux-nonfb(/boot/vmlinuz)
linux-smp(/boot/vmlinuz-smp) *
failsafe(/boot/vmlinuz)
windows(/dev/hd0)
floopy(/dev/fd0)
hope this helps and i made myself clear.

Hey everyone.
I am fairly new the the boards and I have enjoyed spending my time lurking around. I thought it was time to go ahead and introduce myself. I am currently enrolled in http://academy.redhat.com and I am one of the first people to go through the Red Hat course. So to all who will be taking it sometime in the future, please thank my class and I for going through hell and finding all the bugs for you :)It's a WONDERFUL class and it is a very big eye opener!
My first Red Hat installation was with 5.2 and I was about 15 or so at the time, and for someone who didn't know every hardware spec on a computer, this was a huge challenge. After many monitors being blown, I was able to fiddle around Redhat for a long time. My next install was 7.2 (I believe) and now 9.0 (at home) and ES at school.
I had the honor the other night, to have dinner with Michael Tiemann and a couple of other people who were down in New Bern, NC (the town I have grown up in and still live in) to give speeches about the future of education and so forth. Since our Community College is the first to house Red Hat academy, Michael was down for the next couple of nights. It was fun, and he is VERY educated. The conversations we had were like any normal fan of Red Hat to someone well respected. He even drove in my camaro. *laughs* He is a pretty tall guy :)
Anyways, I will like to stay here and continue to lurk and read and to make contacts for future education purposes.

Samba permissions with glftpd |

I have the drive mounted using
"smbmount //Server/d /glftpd/site -o rw" this mounts it but I can only write to it when logged in as root.
I have tried to chmod the /site dir before and after mounting to 777 it doesn't allow for it once its been mounted, and if I specify a gid or a uid it completely ignores them (using -o rw uid=perfekt, gid=perfekt) I just need to have it writeable for glftpd. any info would be helpful.
