Wondering who's using Fedora 8 here at Linux-Noob. How is it working out for you? I'm running it on a Toshiba laptop and so far it's awesome. Even have Compiz-Fusion working!

  nx, freenx fedora 8 problems
Posted by: modernbob - 2007-11-28, 02:07 AM - Forum: Fedora 8 - Replies (1)

after loading up Fedora 8 I discovered that an application I use everyday didn't work anymore. FreeNx is like remote desktop for Linux. I use this to do things on this server everday and discovered that when I used the client application I would connect but when it came to displaying the remote desktop the program just crashed out. After about a week of looking around and asking questions someone finally enlightened me on what to do to fix this issue. Please see below:

So I suggest:

- checking security contexts

- checking /tmp/.X11-unix/ for correct permissions and creation:

$ mkdir -m1755 /tmp/.X11-unix/

If it still does not work, changing DISPLAY="unix:$display" to DISPLAY=":$display" everywhere in /usr/libexec/nx/nxnode.

This worked for me! :P

  LCD monitor technical help
Posted by: Charles Anthony - 2007-11-27, 06:54 PM - Forum: Fedora 7 - Replies (10)

My LCD monitor shows a double image. How do I correct this?

I usually must turn the power off the monitor and wait about 5 seconds and turn it back on for the image to go away.

With the same monitor, I get no double image under Mac OSX nor with Windows XP.

It is a Samsung SyncMaster 191N monitor and I am using the Fedora 7 distro.

Hello,

I am going to port my server from windows to linux. :)

I want to run an irc server, but, I want people to be able to chat through their browsers. So there should be some kind of bridge from irc to http.

What gives people? Is there software for this? Any ideas?

Jean.

So I have installed beryl, nvidia drivers for gforce fx 5200, and avant. Beryl and avant start on startup. I figured that out on my own (freaking Sweeet). Well heres what I have. I have the Microsoft wireless photo keyboard. So when I turn my Volume up or down. There is a white box that appears on my screen. My terminal window is completely white still after doing updates. and my awm dont show the launchers i have added to the application. Everything is a plain white box. Any Help would be really helpfull. Thanks

New user of Linux Ubuntu 7.10 and I have a dual boot from XP to Ubuntu. Sometimes my audio does not work on XP and sometimes my audio does not work on Ubuntu. Have to constantly reboot one after another and eventually it will work. Tried finding software or driver for Linux but nothing.I would do away with XP but not getting anywhere with Ubuntu when I am constantly running into another problem.

I have a SB Live 5.1

Been a while since I posted here. From the first days with Fedora Core 4, now 100% Linux. Haven't looked back. Thought it would be nice to drop a later screen shot, some of my old ones look a little dated, and erm.. did I really make my Linux look like Mac-OS

I made the move to Fedora 8 x86_64. Still love the Fedora, and Linux in general.

Icons from Gnome-Look, background from deviant art. I have to admit its a vista type theme, but only because I like the Black menu bar, but not dark or black windows.
