Anonymity and Linux question
#1
Will running Linux provide any more anonymity online than Windows

No.

No operating system really "provides anonymity", it's pretty much down to the applications and services running upon the OS.

There are situations where information can be gleaned through subtle enumeration and leakage without any applications running, but these cases are few and far between. For modern operating systems, learning what the target OS is doesn't provider a system cracker with much meaningful information - they tend to target vulnerabilities at application or daemon layer.

The only truly certain way of staying anonymous is not to go on the Internet. And I think regimes in some far-eastern countries have proven that even that's not enough!

If you want to have a bit more anonymity you can use vpn, or use free online proxies, or you can use the

tor

network
