I have seen people type that pwd is Print Working Directory but in both the
RHCE handbook and Novell's CLE handbook they say it stands for Present Working Directory.

Print working directory sounds good enough for me (and it's good enough for Wikipedia).

Let me assure you that the command pwd is print working directory. However the $PWD is present working directory .. thus its BOTH! ;)
