Movies and whatnot
#1

I can't for the life of me get any sort of movie to play in Suse 10.1 I can't get an AVI, Mpeg, Quicktime, or even a DVD to go without some software. Can anybody help me on this? I don't know how to install anything, and whenever I try I get stuck in dependency hell.

Somebody help please.

Interesting enough .. I was just helping someone out with this and I was finally able to find the required RPM's to assist you with this!

Add these Installation Sources in Yast (all are type HTTP).
  • Server: suse.mirrors.tds.net Directory: pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.1/inst-source/

  • Server: suse.mirrors.tds.net Directory: pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.1/non-oss-inst-source/

  • Server: ftp.gwdg.de Directory: pub/linux/misc/suser-guru/rpm/10.1

  • Server: packman.iu-bremen.de Directory: suse/10.1/

Now you can look in you Yast for these packages:
  • MAD - MPEG Audio Decoder library.

  • Xine-Mad - MAD/MP3/MPEG support for Xine.

  • Xmms-Lib-Mad - XMMS MP3 support.

Hope that helps :)

Don't forget the libdvdcss codec thingie.

Here's a great site for getting Suse up and functional:

Hey guys. I added the sites you gave me just fine, but now I don't know how to search. I opened up software management in YaST and typed in XINE-Mad, etc.... but nothing came up. I checked my internet to make sure it was going, and yeah, it's going fine. Any ideas?

Try searching just for "mad", hopefully that should show the list you need.
