how to install windows media player? |

hi,
you might be wondering why im asking for the windows media player installation whereas there are mplayer and vlc. yes, i already have those on my fedora core 6 and they are working properly.
my problem is im using a transcription tool called express scribe that can only be run on linux thru wine. i was able to run mp3s and dss files but except for wav and wma due to codec problem. so, i thought on installing windows media player to get the needed audio codecs to play wav and wma.
initially, i installed vlc thinking that it can 'share' its codec with express scribe but to no avail it seems vlc has exclusive use on its built in codecs.
thanks!

There are 2 editions;
# Vyatta Community Edition 2

What will be the feature and function differences between these 2 editions?
Are there other similar open source projects? Tks.

Ok, so I've installed SQL-Ledger & all the little requirements it, well.. required
So now I'm up too building SQL-Ledgers Database & I keep getting this error msg(I'll also write the steps too the issuse):-
root@crazed-weasel:~# su postgres
postgres@crazed-weasel:/root$ createuser -D sql-ledger
could not change directory to "/root"
Shall the new role be a superuser? (y/n) n
Shall the new role be allowed to create more new roles? (y/n) y
createuser: could not connect to database postgres: could not connect to server: No such file or directory
Is the server running locally and accepting
connections on Unix domain socket "/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432"?
Typing into google got me this:-
http://archives.postgresql.org/pgsql-admin...05/msg00196.php

Anything that tries to connect to your postmaster via that socket will
fail. You might want to restart the postmaster to bring back the
socket.
regards, tom lane
which had me type the following in command prompt:-
postgres@crazed-weasel:/root$ postmaster
Which give me back this:-
postmaster does not know where to find the server configuration file.
You must specify the --config-file or -D invocation option or set the PGDATA environment variable.
At this point I am completely at a loss of what too do :(
I am using Slackware 11 on a Pent 3 866Mhz machine.
P.S. The only reason why I'm bothering with SQL is for the program I wrote about in my hello msg(Been workin on this SQL crap for over 2 months now... HELP ME I'M SO SICK OF IT :(

BIND9 Configuration Guidance |

I am currently setting up a DNS server for several domains that i own and i would like some input from you all on my configuration options, etc. The domains have been replaced by example.com example1.com and example2.com.
Okay, first my options file:
Code: options {
directory "/etc/bind";
allow-query { localhost; };
allow-recursion { 127.0.0.1; };
listen-on { <IP of Server>; };
allow-transfer { none; };
auth-nxdomain yes;
};
named.conf:
Code: // If you are just adding zones, please do that in /etc/bind/named.conf.local
include "/etc/bind/named.conf.options";
// prime the server with knowledge of the root servers
zone "." {
type hint;
file "/etc/bind/db.root";
};
// be authoritative for the localhost forward and reverse zones, and for
// broadcast zones as per RFC 1912
zone "localhost" {
type master;
file "/etc/bind/db.local";
};
zone "127.in-addr.arpa" {
type master;
file "/etc/bind/db.127";
};
zone "0.in-addr.arpa" {
type master;
file "/etc/bind/db.0";
};
zone "255.in-addr.arpa" {
type master;
file "/etc/bind/db.255";
};
// zone "com" { type delegation-only; };
// zone "net" { type delegation-only; };
// From the release notes:
// Because many of our users are uncomfortable receiving undelegated answers
// from root or top level domains, other than a few for whom that behaviour
// has been trusted and expected for quite some length of time, we have now
// introduced the "root-delegations-only" feature which applies delegation-only
// logic to all top level domains, and to the root domain. An exception list
// should be specified, including "MUSEUM" and "DE", and any other top level
// domains from whom undelegated responses are expected and trusted.
// root-delegation-only exclude { "DE"; "MUSEUM"; };
include "/etc/bind/named.conf.local";
named.conf.local:
Code: zone "example.com" {
type master;
file "example.com";
notify no;
};
zone "example1.com" {
type master;
file "example1.com";
notify no;
};
zone "example2.com" {
type master;
file "example2.com";
notify no;
};
example.com
Code: @ IN SOA example.com. root.example.com. (
2007032401
28800
86400
2419200
604800 )
IN NS ns1.example.com.
IN MX 10 mail.example.com.
ns1.example.com IN A <IP of server>
example1.com
Code: @ IN SOA www.example1.com. root.example1.com. (
2007032001; Serial
604800 ; Refresh
86400 ; Retry
2419200; Expire
604800 ) ; Default TTL
IN NS ns1.example.com.
IN MX 10 mail.example.com.
ns1.example.com IN A <IP of server>
example2.com
Code: @ IN SOA www.example2.com. root.example2.com. (
2007032001; Serial
604800 ; Refresh
86400 ; Retry
2419200; Expire
604800 ) ; Default TTL
IN NS ns1.example.com.
IN MX 10 mail.example.com.
ns1.example.com IN A <IP of server>
As you can see the dns server will be authoritative for all three domains. I am also going to be putting up a mail server in the near future and would like to serve mail for all three domains from the one server (mail.example.com). If there is anything wrong with these definitions, or if there is something that can be done better, please let me know. :)

Help new to linux |

hi guys,
first time poster so go easy on me :P
alright after thinking long and hard i decided to give linux a go , so i went and got myself a fedora core 6 dvd (i think its the i686 version) i have an AMD64 3200, ATi x800GTO2, 1.5 Gig Ram and all of this fits on a A8n-32 Sli deluxe board.
I have recently moved from UK to Pakistan for work purposes.
(didnt get the x86_64 version cos i heard its still something in development and not very n00b friendly)
Now here i go with questions.
Installing fedora was piss easy it installed picked up most of the drivers on its own and off it went, had a lil problem setting up the dual boot with windows xp but managed to get it done with the help of online tutorials.
my windows xp is on a LAN which is then connected on to the internet. fedora picked up the ethernet drivers and even pings the ISA server but i cant get firefox or any web based application to work?? I have assigned the same ip which was is assigned on winxp, as far as i can guess it seems like something to do with DNS server (its not written in xp but linux needs it)?? any help on this matter will be appreciated.
now unable to setup internet access HOW IN THE NAME OF **** i update my fedora cos wat it seems like that it is really heavily dependent on internet, is there anyway of updating without the use of internet??
next on how to setup modem , i have installed a new modem and windows xp has picked it up and installed the drivers but linux i dont know?? is there any way to see the list of hardware connected on my computer in Linux (something like device manager on windows??))
guys please help
anxiously awaiting your replies
