lo guys,

been using fedora core 5 (or linux for that matter) for 3 weeks now.

i'll give some background on myself:

i'm 25 years old, live in Israel.

Currently a student, second year, on way to achive Electronic Engineering B.Sc degree.

i've been into coding/programming for over 10 years - mostly into PHP coding, with quite good knowledge of all related to webmaster design skills (php, mysql, html, dhtml, javascript, vbscript, flash, tcl, perl, asp, etc.).

among other of my internet activity i act as support staff @ vbulletin coding community called vbh (www.vbhackers.com) - my nick there is my real name "Idan".

got to say nothing beats linux power [img]<___base_url___>/uploads/emoticons/default_rolleyes.gif[/img]

atm i use FC5 though i was thinking maybe in future to swicth to gentoo distro. guess will do that when i'll gain enough skills & master some stuff i need :).

only downside to linux i see atm is that sometimes a very specific hardware can give you hard time to setup & config your box to support it, unlike "windows" which is more plug-n-play (pray :P ) but i guess when you make it works after all it's worth time spent.

cheers ;)

Xen 3.0 Install Script for RHES 4
Posted by: russoaks - 2006-08-02, 01:44 PM - Forum: Tips and Tricks - Replies (1)

I'm having a problem with the xen-install-rhel4.1 script while attempting to install Xen on RedHat 4 - I'm getting stopped at this point:

Code:
eval `/etc/xen/scripts/grubread.pl $active_kernel_version < ${GRUB_CONF}`
if [ -z "$GRUB_ROOT" -o -z "$FS_ROOT" ]; then
    echo "Unable to update ${GRUB_CONF}." > /dev/stderr
    exit 1
fi

What are the -z and -o options for and how are they being used here? If I can get a better understanding of what is happening, I can figure out a work around or be able to fix the issue.

  can't configure modem
Posted by: starrwarz - 2006-07-30, 02:58 AM - Forum: Network Problems - No Replies

Hi all. I have OpenSUSE 10.1, finally got all the NVIDIA stuff working the way I want (it took me 5 installs), etc. However, I still can't get the thing online. I have an intel 536ep modem chipset, and I've tried any driver I could think of that might do the trick from intel.com, but still don't work (it always fails at compiling the driver). Any help please.

Thanx

William

Posted by: starrwarz - 2006-07-30, 12:50 AM - Forum: SUSE - No Replies

O.K. I just got my graphics up and running in OpenSUSE, and got everything going great except for the modem driver (chipset Intel 536ep). I have dialup (no broadband or DSL), and while I can get OpenSUSE to recognize my modem, it won't install (I guess it's missing some packages it needs). I tried compiling my own kernal from the driver chipsets listed at Intel (both the latest OpenSUSE one and a generic Linux one), but none worked. Any suggestions please. Thanks in advance.
