  using unrar in fedora
Posted by: anyweb - 2006-01-02, 01:46 PM - Forum: Filesystem Management - Replies (2)

to use unrar in Fedora (core 4) simply do as follows

Code:
yum install unrar

once it is installed you can unrar your files.rar easily

Code:
unrar e files.rar

e Extract files to current directory

or for all subdirs in files in a rar try

Code:
unrar x files.rar

x Extract files with full path

Red danger screen for User in kde Suse 9.3 after Yast
Posted by: newsu - 2006-01-01, 01:32 PM - Forum: SUSE - No Replies

I installed 9.3 with minimal x environment. Then I did a kernel upgrade. Then I restarted again and told

the installer to give me a Gnome environment. When I still got TWM, I installed again and asked for a

KDE graphical system. I kept getting /tmp/X0.#!$ is running. So I su to root and rm /tmp/X0.*orWhatever.

Then I startx as root and get the red danger screen in kde. I shutdown -r now.

Then I put startkde in ~/.xinitrc/ and whenever I reboot, I still start with red danger kde.

I go into Yast System>sysconfig Editor>... and change from TWM to KDE. I also make KDE the

DEFAULT_WM and setup to reboot with kde for all and set the default start user as me.

I save and reboot. I am now me just a User in kde Suse 9.3 but still with a red danger kde screen.

When I click on console terminal just right of the Suse emblem at the bottom left it comes up as

me not root.

What might I have done wrong or left out?

How do I check the privledges of me?

Can anyone say or ask me anything to help solve this?

Thanks,

NewSu

Right now my current problem is finding out how to run/open a .sh file (boinc_5.2.13_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh). It is for the Einstein@Home project. I am greatful for any help.

  Dual Booting Newbie Question
Posted by: Greeves - 2005-12-28, 09:21 PM - Forum: SUSE - Replies (4)

Hi,

I just loaded SuSe Linux on a second hard drive about a week ago. As I don't want to get rid of Windows XP (on my other hard drive) entirely, I have been switching hard drives physicly when I wanted to switch. I was hoping that I could leave both hard drives in the whole time and it would give me the option of where to boot to. Does anyone know how I can do that?

Thanks in advance,

Greeves
