Suse 10 and ethernet driver problem
Posted by: RichardL - 2005-12-11, 01:54 PM - Forum: SUSE - Replies (2)

I seek your help to solve my problems with new edition of SuSE 10 and Internet fast access.

Very briefly. My on board ethernet chipset is Intel 82562EZ 10/100. When I install and run SuSE 9.2 this controller will brilliantly configure during the installation process and I have fast broadband access to the net like with Windows.

Recently I downloaded and installed SuSE 10 and now the access to the net is very slow. It takes a lot of time to find address and a lot of patience is needed before page will open even my home one from server.

In my opinion the driver is not properly configured although YaST says that it is.

Identical slow response is experienced with emails. [img]<___base_url___>/uploads/emoticons/default_mad.gif[/img]

Can you possibly tell me how to make it working like with the previous version, please. Is there any way to upgrade the driver or any measures to overcome this problem.

Best regards

Richard

PHP 5.1.1 deleted my part table - plz read
Posted by: hybrid - 2005-12-10, 09:45 PM - Forum: LAMP - Replies (6)

Sorry, I don't have much time, so this post will be rushed.

I have just restored Windows having had PHP 5.1.1 compile in Linux delete my partition table (it's now happened twice). I'll explain more tomorrow, but please read my bug submission.

Basically, I'm on dual boot and I think the PHP installation deleted my partition table (or MBR, something significant). I was upgrading to the latest version.

This broke my system twice :(, so I don't want anyone else's system to be broken.

Sorry, I'll try and get in more details, but as I say, I don't have the time tonight.

yet more server downtime, and i'm away which makes
Posted by: anyweb - 2005-12-08, 08:37 PM - Forum: Site News - No Replies

sorry for yet more downtime, all i can ascertain is the ip has changed and perhaps the ISP cut off the connection before that happened

from looking at smoothwall traffic logs i can see the connection died totally at approx 4AM in the morning, and was only resurected by a forced hard reboot of the firewall at 8pm or so. This action caused the smoothwall to ask for an ip address and it was handed a new one. What happened at 4AM i don't know, but based on the fact that the server was down the very day before (due to ISP issues) leads me to believe the ISP was in the process of some more spring cleaning which they hoped no one would notice

as I was not around to monitor it I couldn't be sure

it's up again now, and the new DNS entrys are propogated

hopefully that's the last downtime problems for this year

sorry again for any inconvenience

cheers

  trashcan io problem
Posted by: jambarama - 2005-12-07, 10:05 PM - Forum: Debian - Replies (1)

I am currently running Sarge. I did a dist-upgrade from Woody and everything works fine except when I press the delete key, I get this error message:

Could not start process Unable to create io-slave:

klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'trash'.

I get the same error if I drag a file to the trash. Shift-delete works just fine. I've checked permissions on the trash, they are fine.

Any suggestions?

Our Green Earth

Our great dreaming trees, with eyes of silence

Our great blue oceans, the nectar of life

Our great open sky, filling with posion

Our great mother nature, singing in sorrow

Our great love for life, slowly fading

Our great past known, misguided it was

Our great present choices, leading to the end

Our great coming future, it becomes a tale

  IRC and my firewall/router
Posted by: dspln - 2005-12-07, 09:05 PM - Forum: Security and Firewalls - Replies (1)

I've got iptables (with just about all the options) built into the kernel.

I clear the firewall:

iptables -F

iptables -t nat -F

iptables -P INPUT ACCEPT

iptables -P OUTPUT ACCEPT

iptables -P FORWARD ACCEPT

(On the firewall/router) I start iptraf, then start irssi, /connect dalnet, all that happens in iptraf is:

┌{eth1ip}:60267 = 3 180 S--- eth1

└{dalnet}:6667 = 0 0 ---- eth1

eth1 is the internet connected nic.

midentd is listening on 113

I've tried using a client on my home network, but it doesn't make it through the router either.

In an iptables config file here I noticed:

Code:
IRCPORTS="6665,6666,6667,6668,6669,7000" #IRC Ports
...
/sbin/modprobe ip_conntrack_irc ports=$IRCPORTS
/sbin/modprobe ip_nat_irc ports=$IRCPORTS

But I have those modules built into the kernel - do they need those parameters, and how do I pass them if I don't have the modules? Or do these not work if built into the kernel?

Gentoo 2005.1 i386

Otherwise, firewall/router seems to work fine - I can access http on on the router, and http/ssh/ftp/counter-strike all get thru the router just fine.
