  Getting NetworkManager (10.0 eval)
Posted by: dasunst3r - 2005-10-20, 10:13 PM - Forum: SUSE - Replies (1)

For those of you who have downloaded the eval version of SUSE Linux 10.0, you can still have NetworkManager! After finding it off the OSS version's repositories, I have figured out all the dependency issues, what commands to issue, etc. Just download this archive at [/url][url=http://zinga.yeungnet.com/linuxWork/NetworkManager.tar.bz2]http://zinga.yeungnet.com/linuxWork/NetworkManager.tar.bz2 , run the script as root, reboot, and you'll be on your way!

The script is as follows:

Code:
#!/bin/sh
rpm -e dhcpcd
rpm -ihv dhcdbd-1.6.5-i586.rpm
rpm -ihv dhcp-3.0.3-2.i586.rpm
rpm -ihv dhcp-client-3.0.3-2.i586.rpm
rpm -ihv NetworkManager-0.4.1cvs20050901-2.i586.rpm
rpm -ihv NetworkManager-glib-0.4.1cvs20050901-2.i586.rpm
rpm -ihv NetworkManager-gnome-0.4.1cvs20050901-2.i586.rpm
gtk-update-icon-cache -f /opt/gnome/share/icons/hicolor

With my current skillset in writing shell scripts, I could only write this much. If you want to improve this script, please reply with your improved script (with comments so that I could learn), and I'll pop it in there ASAP! :) And if it works, I would appreciate some words of encouragement/appreciation!

  Nvidia Issue
Posted by: |.Tipman.| - 2005-10-18, 05:15 PM - Forum: Fedora - Replies (1)

I have everything in place and ready to go but* I accidently put the nvidia setup/file into Refx Home instead of the root folder. Now I can execute the driver to be installed logged in as Refx but it says I must be root. I try it as root, says its not there or invalid or w/e. So what I need to figure out is how can I access Refx's Home folder from root to open the exe. so I can install these drivers. Thanks for your input guys.

  QT & GTK
Posted by: hybrid - 2005-10-18, 07:04 AM - Forum: Compiling - Replies (3)

I've been having this problem for a while now, but have not managed to fix it yet.

I'm using SuSE 9.0 Personal and I want to install new versions of the graphical apps it has. Whenever I try to ./configure any of these apps - I get:

Code:
checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.3) (library qt-mt) not found. Please check your installation!
For more details about this problem, look at the end of config.log.
Make sure that you have compiled Qt with thread support!

I have tried recompiling it numerous times (with and without thread support), installing an RPM, but the funny thing is, the graphical apps using QT that come with SuSE are already installed and working fine. How do I install QT stuff?

Also, I now seem to have a similar problem with GTK apps. I tried to ./configure The GIMP 2.2.8, and I get:

Code:
checking for pkg-config... no
checking for GLIB - version >= 2.4.5... no
*** A new enough version of pkg-config was not found.
*** See http://www.freedesktop.org/software/pkgconfig/
configure: error: Test for GLIB failed. See the file 'INSTALL' for help.

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong to prevent installation of graphical apps o_O

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

  bind and fedora core 4
Posted by: cyris - 2005-10-16, 05:01 PM - Forum: Fedora Core Release 4 - Replies (5)

Hello all. I am attempting to run BIND on fedora core 4 and having some issues.

I have added my zone file to /etc/named.conf.

Here is a copy of my named.conf...

options {

directory "/var/named";

version "xxx";

};

zone "thewildgoose.ca" {

type master;

file "data/named.xxxx.ca";

};

I am just trying to get forward dns working, I will take care of reverse after.

This is my zone file...

$TTL 1d

@ IN SOA xxxxx.ca. xxxx.xxxx.ca. (

2005081001;serial

3600 ;refresh

300 ;retry

3600000 ;expire

3600 ) ;minimum

IN NS ns1.xxxx.ca.

$ORIGIN xxxx.ca.

;A Records

ns1 IN A xx.xx.xx.xx

mail IN A 68.151.33.239

@ IN A 68.151.33.239

;CNAME Records

www IN CNAME ns1

webmail IN CNAME ns1

xxxx.ca. IN MX 1 mail

/var/log/messages seems to indicate named starts fine but i cant seem to connect to any of my hosts.

thanks for reading this and i look forward to any advice.

  Hello every

Hi everyone, what's going on. I haven't been in in over a year now. Using a new name now, have forgotten my old login and password, I hope to get started on Fedora Core again. I loved it and never wanted to get away from it. It's so cool. Well I'll be having a hard time as usual getting to learn how to pass through all the loops, but I'll have fun and there is plenty of support and lots IRC channel to go to! See you all around soon, and as soon as I get my 2nd 80gig, Fedora is on its way.

Later guys. Bye

  how to install enlightenment d17
Posted by: hijinks - 2005-10-13, 01:29 PM - Forum: Tips and Tricks - Replies (1)

first its only out for cvs.. make sure you have the following libraries installed

[/url][url=http://enlightenment.org/Enlightenment/Get...ment/index.html]http://enlightenment.org/Enlightenment/Get...ment/index.html

that explains what you need installed.. any new distro with the basics installed should be fine

so lets grab it from cvs

Code:
cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/enlightenment login
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/enlightenment co e17

when it prompts you for a password just hit enter.. sometimes sourceforge is very slow on the cvs server.. so just give it a few minutes

now that you have it all downloaded.. lets compile it.. this is long.. but fun :)

Code:
cd e17/libs/imlib2
./autogen.sh
./configure --prefix=/usr
make
make install

cd ../edb/
./autogen.sh
make
make install

cd ../eet/
./autogen.sh
make
make install

cd ../evas/
./autogen.sh
make
make install

cd ../ecore/
./autogen.sh
make
make install

cd ../epeg/
./autogen.sh
make
make install

cd ../embryo/
./autogen.sh
make
make install

cd ../edje/
./autogen.sh
make
make install

cd ../epsilon/
./autogen.sh
make
make install

cd ../esmart/
./autogen.sh
make
make install

cd ../emotion/
./autogen.sh
ldconfig -v
make
make install

cd ../etox/
./autogen.sh
make
make install

cd ../ewl/
./autogen.sh
make
make install

cd ../../apps/iconbar
./autogen.sh
make
make install

cd ../entice/
./autogen.sh
make
make install

cd ../entrance/
./autogen.sh
make
make install

cd ../elicit/
./autogen.sh
make
make install

cd ../e/
./autogen.sh
make
make install

finally compiled and install... YAYAYA

now for me i don't use like gdm.. i just type startx and boot right into X so for me to run E i just do this

Code:
echo enlightenment > ~/.xinitrc

then when you exit out of X and run startx it should load E.. this was tested on slackware 10.2
