to view or edit your ip settings manually for eth0 or eth1 (your network cards)
go here
vi /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ethx
where x= the number of your network card
for example
vi /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1
will show you the config file for eth1
here is a sample one below for my wireless card
Code: # Please read /usr/share/doc/initscripts-*/sysconfig.txt
# for the documentation of these parameters.
USERCTL=no
PEERDNS=yes
GATEWAY=100.0.0.1
TYPE=Wireless
DEVICE=eth1
HWADDR=00:02:2d:46:b2:5f
BOOTPROTO=none
NETMASK=255.255.0.0
ONBOOT=yes
DHCP_HOSTNAME=
IPADDR=100.0.0.123
NAME=
DOMAIN=
ESSID=wirelinux
CHANNEL=11
MODE=Ad-Hoc
RATE=11Mb/s

to add the plugin (to play mp3's) get this file
untar/unzip it by typing this
tar zxvf xmms-mp3-fc1.tar.gz
Once uncompressed, copy these two lib files (as root) to this folder:
/usr/lib/xmms/Input/
Restart your XMMS and enjoy mp3!
cheers

when I read dmesg, the only line that returns anything to do with: error, fail, crash, die, exit, quit, abort, etc is this:
kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k scsi_hostadapter, errno = 2
Does anyone know what this means, and if at all it would affect the way my box runs?
Thanks.

I've decided that I'm not pro enough to deal with the piles of config and compatability work in linux on a regular basis, so I'm going to boot to a XP partition.
The harddrive is currently partitioned with a spare 80gb sector I'm not using, and I plan on putting Windows there. Before I burn the cd, is there anything I need to know, along the lines of:
--will xp install peacefully within the partition, and if not, would it be easier just to reformat and repartition the entire thing then reinstall rh9 afterwards?
--what do I need to do within the rh9 burning program to make sure the disk qualifies as a boot disk?
--is there a way to store files on a third partition where they can be mutually accessed by both systems? (I remember linux has a tool to interact with windows-formatted filesystems, but I dont know if it works across a partition)
