hi all,

I'm continuing to improve the site by giving people what they want, a new look and more features !

Over the next few days the site will get the final update to IPB 3.0 (it's release candidate now) and I've just purchased IP Blog (it's a yearly license) to add to the new look. Hopefully I will have all completed by the weekend

and more importantly, I hope you guys like and appreciate the changes

cheers

  VNC in Fedora 11
Posted by: anyweb - 2009-06-25, 04:48 AM - Forum: Fedora 11 - No Replies

if you use vncviewer and vncserver a lot you may be wondering where they are in Fedora 11, well they are now known as tigervnc, tightvnc which was a fork of realvnc is now renamed to tigervnc.

So if you want vncserver as root do this:

Code:
yum install tigervnc-server

and for vncviewer

Code:
yum install vnc

ok now you know how to vnc in Fedora 11, how about doing vnc over ssh to make it more secure !

cheers

'Mandriva Linux 2010 Alpha 1 Available for Download'
Posted by: anyweb - 2009-06-24, 06:00 AM - Forum: Linux News - No Replies

"Mandriva Linux 2010 Alpha 1 is now available on public mirrors. This first alpha is available only through Free version, 32 and 64 bits DVDs. This development release is the first one realized without mkcd, our historical build tool, but using bcd available also on Mandriva svn. This new tool should improve global quality of our release and make tests much easier and efficient... Final release of 2010 version is due the 21st of October."

State of sound in Linux not so sorry after all
Posted by: anyweb - 2009-06-21, 05:53 PM - Forum: Linux News - No Replies

"Now much has changed, namely:

* OSS is now free and open source once again.

* PulseAudio has become widespread.

* Existing libraries have been improved.

* New Linux Distributions have been released, and some existing ones have attempted an overhaul of their entire sound stack to improve users' experience.

* People read the last article, and have more knowledge than before, and in some cases, have become more opinionated than before.

* I personally have looked much closer at the issue to provide even more relevant information."

Linux to Be the First to Support USB 3.0
Posted by: anyweb - 2009-06-16, 06:30 PM - Forum: Linux News - No Replies

It's not available in the latest kernel just yet, but if you just so happen to have gotten your hands on a USB 3.0 device you want to use at full spectrum (you lucky jerk) or want to do this for the sake of geekiness, it's now possible to get USB 3.0 support for Debian and Ubuntu systems. The USB 3.0 subsystem will be integrated into the Linux kernel "soon," but if you've got some time on your hands, instructions have been provided to do it yourself.

New Yum features in Fedora 11
Posted by: anyweb - 2009-06-15, 12:30 PM - Forum: Linux News - No Replies

Fedora 11 comes with many improvements in package management including a update version of RPM and Yum that reduces memory consumption and performs faster. Fedora 11 also includes the presto plugin for Yum that downloads the binary deltas for updates and typically saves over 80% of the download size. Linux Mag takes a look with some interesting benchmarks that show modest improvements overall.

Today, Fedora 11 will be unleashed upon the web. The release has been postponed for a few days, but this time it's for real. It comes packed with lots of changes, such as improved boot time, Nouveau as the default NVIDIA driver, and of course the latest and greatest version of various open source packages.

  Linux multi-touch technology demoed
Posted by: hybrid - 2009-06-14, 05:42 AM - Forum: Linux News - No Replies

Quote:A development group at ENAC in Toulouse, France, reports that it has developed a proof of concept for adding iPhone-like multi-touch support to the Linux kernel. The group has released a video showing multi-touch effects such as resizing and rotating using Linux 2.6.30.

Based on Henrik Rydberg's recent additions to the Linux input system, and developed in collaboration with the Linux kernel team, the technology is billed as being true native multi-touch support for Linux. It was developed by Mohamed-Ikbel Boulabiar, Stephane Chatty, and Sebastien Hamdani, from the Interactive Computing Lab at the ENAC (Ecole Nationale de l'Aviation Civile) aeronautics academy in Toulouse, France.

  Linux kernel 2.6.30 released
Posted by: hybrid - 2009-06-11, 05:25 AM - Forum: Linux News - No Replies

Quote:Linus Torvalds has announced the release of version 2.6.30 of the Linux kernel. "I'm sure we've missed something, and I know we have some regressions pending. At the same time, we do need the coverage of a eral release, and on the whole it looks pretty good. We've fixed a few regressions in the last few days, and there's always 2.6.30.x." The list of changes is interesting.
