I want to create a custom repo containing the complete dependency tree for a set of packages. I want to this so as to able to install it on a computer using yum that does not have an internet connection. Most of the what I have come across describe the process to recreate whole repository, while I want a repo containing a small list of packages I can carry on a 512mb pen drive etc.

Any pointers for how to go about this?

I just hit my 2 year anniversary as a noob with Linux.

I want to apologize in advance since this post may be a bit long, I have been at this for a week and am at a stalemate. I hope the Moderators don't mind all this detail in my question.

I am working with a HTPC (Home Theater PC) box using GenToo. This is not MythTV but a system using GenToo mainly for home theater use and is a bit stripped down. The folks that designed the system and package feel that TwinView cannot be done properly on their system and do not give technical support for TwinView. They were surprised I got this far with it.

 

The motherboard is a MSI K9MGM3 v1 with a Nvidia 6150 chipset for the video. The MB has HDMI out which I am using and it has Component(RGB) and S-Video out. The TV sizes are a Vizio 42 inch fed via HDMI and the Samsung 19 inch is fed video from a 2.4GHz A/V transmitter/receiver setup to another room of the house, S-Video is used for this.

What I am trying to accomplish is to have S-Video and HDMI out at the same time. At this time I have it working but the S-Video out is not correct. The first two images are showing the Option "MetaModes" "1920x1080 , 720x480". The second set of images is using a suggested setting of "MetaModes" "1080i , 1080i" which seems not to be the normal option. Using this setting got it a bit closer on the S-Video out. The main reason I am going through all this is that I would like to send the A/V throughout the house to different TVs. I am not worried about HD when watching this system. I have been in kind of a hurry to set all this up since I may soon be stuck in a wheelchair here and setting this up at a later time may be out of the question. I will place the xorg code in the post below. Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

As a web developer, I usually don't have to configure the server and concentrate on programming, so coming back to Linux after a while is always a strange experience.

 

I tried to configure Apache and mySQL on a standard Debian etch installation and then gave up when I heard about XAMPP which ran quite well out of the box. Did it again today on a fresh Debian 5.0. When /opt/lampp is installed and running, you can of course then get rid of other Apache, FTP, SQL versions.

 

I was wondering what else is there to do to optimize Debian for maximum xampp performance, like

- uninstalling unneeded packages and services

- configuring startup in text mode only

- any settings in xampp components?

- maybe some settings of "nice" to give xampp higher priority?

- anything else?

The GNOME team has released GNOME 2.26, the latest release in the 2.x release branch. As everyone knows, GNOME is a multi-platform open source desktop environment. The 2.26 release continues GNOME's policy of incremental updates to a stable base, and as such, it comes packed with a boatload of new features.

 

GNOME 2.26 includes the Brasero CD/DVD burning tool as the default burning application. Even though GNOME already supported burning capabilities, Brasero brings new features to GNOME such as audio track preview, track splitting, volume normalisation, full multisession support, integrity checks, a cover editor, and support for multiple burning backends. Note that the previous method of burning is still part of GNOME.

 

Work on GNOME's mail and groupware suite, Evolution , has focussed on users migrating from Windows. Evolution now supports importing Outlook .pst files, as well as support for Microsoft Exchange's MAPI protocol. This makes GNOME much more suited to work with Exchange servers.

My shift key does not work. Stopped working last night. If you're wondering how I got the caps in here I have to hit the capslock button every time. However, I cannot use anything that pertains to the shift key, it started last night. every time i hit the shift key the cursor disappears and no characters appear when i hit the keyboard.....any help would be greatly appreciated......

I joined Skype using Windows XP where it worked ok. I have now installed Skype on Fedora 10 which opens the account, takes calls and plays sound but doesn't produce a webcam picture. (Creative Live! Cam which works ok in Fedora's Cheese Webcam Booth) When I open Options/video in Skype and click on Test picture the Skype program disappears leaving just the log-in screen. Can anyone advise me how to fix this?
