Hey dudes!
Is broadcom support native nowadays?
I want to install linux again, but I want to know if broadcom is supported natively.
Also my question is, is the Intel 915GM supported properly yet?
So far I have tried several distro's but none of em support lower resolutions, which I need to play some windows games. (Vice City and The Sims mostly)

HELP on FreeNX for Fedora Core 6 |

Hey everyone, First of all i am a total noob especially when it comes to Linux. So be patient.
I had the FreeNX installed on the linux box and i was able to remote desktop from a windows machine. UNTIL one day i needed to map a network drive on the windows machine from the Linux box (which ofcourse i didnt do myself) so the person that did that told me he had to turn off a couple of things among iptables.
Here is what i did from there on:
1. uninstalled all nx software on the Linux machine.
2. reinstalled NX using the yum command thing.
3. installed NoMachine NX free edition for Linux from ----> http://www.nomachine.com/download-packag...rod_Id=540
4. messed around with the iptables in an effort to try to open port 22 (which i have no idea whether its open or closed)
The problem:
when i try to connect to the linux box from windows client i get the following message
"The NX service is not available or the NX access was disabled on host xxx.xxx.xxxx"
In the detail section:
NX> 203 NXSSH running with pid: 5128
NX> 285 Enabling check on switch command
NX> 285 Enabling skip of SSH config files
NX> 285 Setting the preferred NX options
NX> 200 Connected to address: 9.26.156.235 on port: 22
NX> 202 Authenticating user: nx
NX> 208 Using auth method: publickey
NX> 204 Authentication failed.
I really need some help on this and if its not too much i would like to fix this problem without affecting the network drive mapped on the windows machine.

Hey everyone!
I was just wondering how I can install Games for Windows games...I dont know if it is just as easy as running everything under Wine. I would personally test it out, but I am not 100% sure how to run anything under wine.
I installed a very recent version of Sabayon on my computer, mainly because it comes with a heap of junk that I wanted (Compiz, Wine-doors, Office suite, and just luxuries). I am not sure exactly how to run a program in wine. I went to the terminal and opened up winecfg and tried the first file I could think of (Armadillo Run!) and I used the correct .exe but I havent been able to find any proof that what I did did anything. Maybe I am just doing it wrong...but anyways I want to eventually install a bunch of small games (like Armadillo) and others like GTA IV, Fallout 3, and so on.
I doubt it will help, but here's some brief specs on my compy
Custom-built--
AMD Phenom 2.4gHz Triple-core processor
4GB G-Skill (Dual Channel) 800Mhz RAM
Radeon HD 3850 1GB DDR2
1TB WD HDD
and so on..
I am skilled with computers, so I can answer most questions about the actual machine, but all of my life I have had things handed to me (Windows) so I am not quite the programming buff I should be..
Thanks everyone.

linux-noob.com was down for about 12 hours and lost data due to a FORCED hardware reboot (i didn't do it)
the reason for the reboot was I submitted a support ticket to the host asking why i was getting network timeouts
they rebooted my server without asking me, as a result, the database got corrupted and data was lost

apologies, but I had to restore the site database from a backup i did on sunday so some days data lost.

Hi everybody.
I'm 51 years young and as my favourite pass-time is web design. Logically i got curious enough about Linux because I want to learn how to work on my web server (dedicated fully managed so far) and recently started trying out all available Linux distros. I don't like Ubuntu and GNOME. I actually installed Mandriva on one machine on a PATA HD(dual boot with Windows7 Beta x64) and Fedora 10 on a SATA HD(Dual boot with Vista Ultimate x64). So far so good (got rid of GRUB 17 errors aso by formatting the whole HD). Install problems arise on my main machine which only has SATA HDs. MOBO: ASUS P5Q - Pro, Chipset: INTEL P45, Marvell driver. This Marvell driver has known issues with Linux installs. Xandros has released a workaround pre-install iso but I still cannot install the Trial version I got from Xandros. I addressed this problem to Xandros support this morning and probably will get an answer after the weekend. But I have the same problem with other installs on this rig like i.e. CentOS 5.2 or Mandriva. Error messages are incompatible Marvell driver or image not found. So if anyone has a good idea how to get a compatible driver and how to include (preceed) it in the installation that would help. I think it could help also if I had an application which can format NTFS into Ext3 or ReiserFS4.
As to my general IT experience - only PC so far: I got my 1st PC in 1997/1998. AMD Athlon K6 1200 with 256 KB RAM. I have run all Windoze Versions from 3.1 to Windows7 (ME for 1 day only) and everything I know so far I learned by reading, watching try and fil and re-try.
My nickname is self explaining LOLz
Cheers and I hope this wasn't too much for an intro

Compiz issue |

Strictly speaking, not an issue with Xorg per se - more with Compiz/Fusion, and more under Fedora 10 specifically.
Firstly, waste some time here.
Now: I want the same functionality I had in Beryl now in Compiz. What are the options, and does Fed 10 actually honour those under Compiz Config Manager? It seems there's some settings it will ignore.

a few days ago i decided i was bored with the pre installed linpus distro on my aspire one, so i decided to download fedora ten KDE with a usb stick. everything is running fine except for my sound. i've looked at several guides for making the sound work but i am not that experienced with command line and such as i really need someone to explain it a bit better for a noob like me to understand. any help would be much appreciated as i really want to get the whole system running smoothly.

hi all,
some of you may have noticed the 12 hours or so of downtime, this was because i had no time to prepare and had to move my servers data plus rent a new box in Amsterdam
well, the box is up (with Centos) and i've got the latest versions of apache/php and mysql installed, i've reimported the data from the old server so no data is lost
i have some back office house keeping still to do but the guts are there and you are here now, which is a success
cheers
