2. a webserver called http://linux-noob.com breaks the ISPs terms and conditions (point 4.1, appa\rently you are not allowed to have a webserver providing a service or information to others)
As this contradicts the ISP's terms and conditions, I have been given until 2009/09 at 8.am to fix it (ie: take it offline)
I apologise for this in advance and hope to have everything back online again very soon,
We were trying to install all RedHat family linux automatically by kickstart. All went fine except RHEL 5.1, though we were using same approach for all.
We first gave dhcp network in the kickstart file as it is booted from network. Then in the post installation script we are changing the network to static, by editing the network configuration files. But in case of RHEL 5.1 the newly created file(ifcfg-eth0) becomes a .BAK file and a new file with DHCP configuration is created on its own.
Whats more strange is if we overwrite the ifcfg-eth0 with the ifcfg-eth0.BAK and restart the network it works fine.
After boot up, I can not get to the user login screen. I am stuck with the arrow cursor and Fedora spinner graphic in the middle of the screen. This spins for about 5 seconds, the screen goes black and then the arrow+spinner pops up again for an other 5 seconds. This repeats forever.
I recently installed Linux Mint 5 (Ubuntu 8.10) and bought a USB 2.0 wireless dongle (Realtek) that says right on the box that it's compatible with Linux. How do I get LM to use this thing to connect to my wireless router? Thanks.
click on System, Administration, Printing (or System-Config-Printer)
then when the app appears, click on Server, New, Printer
choose AppSocket/HP JetDirect
for Host, type in the IP address of the Dell 1320c, and give the Queue a name eg: Dell Printer and click Forward,
When the Choose Driver page appears, select FX as the Manufacturer (Makes), then choose DocuPrint C525 A-AP as the model and driver, click forward again, leave the options as default.
Change the printer name to Dell Color Laser 1320c, and then click apply, enter your root password and you are done.
After attempting to piecemeal-upgrade a FC4 boxen to FC7 (successfully with a works machine, and unsuccessfully with my home server) I tried the same with my Mandrake9.1 server, using an article I read (haven't got the link to hand, but essentially it's a case of updating the urmpi config files then running "urpmi --auto-select" and letting it chug away.)
So, after a slight faf around with some circular dependencies, I appear to be on Manrape10.0 although my kernal version (and /etc/issue) still claim to be unchanged. However, although *some* packages updated (perl, python, apache etc) some others remained at their normal level - one being MySQL.
If this was Fedora, I could just run "yum update MySQL" and let it sort out the newer version. How do I do this in Mandrake? Also, is there an option for "update a specific package" using urpmi?
I have half of a drive which the partition manager guided me to unmount and format. Now that area shows a status of 'unmounted'. Discmount has been downloaded and run, and reports there are no files to mount at this time. Thanks for your time.
www.inatux.com has just posted a new article entitled "20 Early Linux New Year's Resolutions", it's a good read. And it got me thinking, they list 20 excellent "Linux New Year's Resolutions" but why stop where they did? They wrote "Please do comment if you have a Linux resolution suggestion." I think we should fill that page this resolution suggestions and maybe the list will have some sort of impact on the development of the latest Linux distros., couldn't hurt right?
Yesterday I bought a new computer, it's a Acer-aspire one. I have got Linpus Linux Lite V1.0.15.E on it. This IM-chat thing that is om Linux really sucks. I would like to download aMsn to my computer, but I can't. Every time I try, I can save it, but I can't install it...:)One person told me that I have to have Ubuntu to be able to have aMsn. Is that true? If so, what will happen if I download ubuntu? I know that the design will change, but what about the content? Will the games and writing programs disappear? :(
I'd like to start this off by saying I apologize for making my first post such a cry for help, but that is really what it is. This being "linux-noob", I hope you are used to it to the extent of helping.. haha.
I'm currently working on a laptop, booted into a live linux cd (slackware based distrib).
I have a NTFS drive mounted as /mnt/mswin, and my goal is to bring a file local to that file system into my home folder so I can email it, put it on a USB key, whatever. I am convinced this hard drive is about to crap the bed, and who's laptop it is needs this one file - thats it.
I know I formatted the mv command wrong, but here is what I did =
Code:
~# cd /mnt
mnt # mkdir mswin
mnt # mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sda1 mswin -o force
mnt # ls
floppy/ hdc/ live/ mswin/ sda1/
mnt # cd mswin/Documents\ and\ Settings/Owner/My\ Documents/
My Documents # ls
My\ Music/ RCT3/ desktop.ini* meagan\ story.wps* tm.xlr*
george\ washington.wps*
(The file I need to get is 'george\ washington.wps')
Code:
My Documents # mv george\ washington.wps /desktop
My Documents # ls
My\ Music/ RCT3/ desktop.ini* meagan\ story.wps* tm.xlr*
(The file is gone. Where is it!? I typed in that command wrong!)
And I can't find the right file through any relevant search I can try:
