hi guys, im just starting linux (well, not JUST starting) and i want to get my wireless working. i went to linuxwireless.org but didnt see the name of my card on the list. but, when i download the windows driver from the net, use my usb to get it onto my computer and put the .inf and .sys files into /home/wireless (i havent set up a user account yet, so im root) , and i do ndiswrapper -i /home/wireless/<something>8180.inf, it gives me no output, but when i do ndiswrapper -l, it says:
<something>8180 : invalid driver!
The driver im trying to use worked on windows 2000, so i dont know why its invalid. my asante al1611 probably just isnt supported in linux (its a PCMCIA (or whatever its called) device), but, if theres a solution, thnx in advance.

hi guys, i have have an intel inspiron 3800 with an asante al1611 wireless card. i want to get it working under arch linux, but according to linuxwireless.org and the asante web site, there is no linux driver for it, but i saw on osdir.com that some guy used the .inf file which came with the cd (http://osdir.com/ml/linux.drivers.ndiswr...00016.html) using ndiswrapper 1.1 driver to get it working. i REALLY want to use arch instead of windows 2000. thnx in advance! but its most likely impossible to get it working without any driver for linux.

So I have Debian installed on my laptop, and I was able to get the madwifi driver working for my Atheros AR5008x (aka AR5418) So anywhere there it is sitting at ath0, but network manager the little dohicky up top doesn't want to play, there's only 3 options, wired network, configure something, and about, the wired network and the configure are greyed out, because I'm not connected(trying to use the wireless card) and it's not working,
I tried a few other apps to test out where the problem was, one even went as far to use my wireless card to scan for nearby networks, but I wasn't able to connect to them thru that program, anyway anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I just started using Linux and when I try to boot up an image of Red hat it hangs on "Enabling swap space"
I am using a prepackaged red hat enterprise AS 4.0 image and vmware server console version 1.06. My host computer is XP.
How do I increase the swap space, that is what I think I need to do? I cant do anything except reboot it.
Thanks for any help

DVD-RAM corruption problem |

All of a sudden, one of my DVD-RAMs has become corrupted: attempting to mount gets
sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] Add. Sense: L-EC uncorrectable error
end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 1644
udf: udf_read_inode(ino 411) failed !bh
UDF-fs: Error in udf_iget, block=139, partition=0
Partly because these disks are difficult to get, and partly because I don't like to give in, I'm trying to repair it. Here are the results so far.
fsck.udf is untraceable, although mentioned on some websites.
Using udftools to make a new filing system,
mkudffs --media-type=dvdram /dev/sr0
give the error "trying to change types of multiple extents" (why can't developers write English?)
Using
growisofs -Z /dev/sr0 -udf
gives the error ":-( unable to open64("/dev/sr0",O_RDWR): Read-only file system"
Using
mkfs.ext2 -b 2048 -F -F /dev/sr0
gives the error "/dev/sr0: Read-only file system while setting up superblock"
So, I can't access the disk because it's corrupt, and I can't repair it because I can't access it. Actually I can never mount DVD-RAMs other than read-only: I have to use the "remount" option to get them read-write.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
System: Fedora 8
