I am having some serious problems trying to get netbeans to run on Fedora 7. Actaully everything appears to look ok until I start the application. The gui comes up but nothing else. I get a white background and nothing further works. If anyone gets this to work please let me know how you did it. If you tried to load it and it didn'r work tell me what happened.

  Xen and Fedora 7 'Disk image does not exist'
Posted by: c4rdinal - 2007-08-15, 01:25 AM - Forum: Fedora 7 - No Replies

Hi there!

Hope you can help me solve this problem. I've been working on this of almost 1week now. I Googled alot but can't find any definite answer.

Whenever I created guest OS using virt-manager this error came out.

Here's the error:

libvir: Xen Daemon error : POST operation failed: (xend.err 'Disk image does not exist: /virt/vega.img')

Traceback (most recent call last):

File "/usr/share/virt-manager/virt-manager.py", line 246, in <module>

main()

File "/usr/share/virt-manager/virt-manager.py", line 242, in main

gtk.main()

KeyboardInterrupt

I followed this procedure to create image for the guest OS:

Create a mountpoint for the images.

mkdir -p /xen-images/mnt

Create a 1 GB image file and 500 MB swap file, for larger images increase count.

dd if=/dev/zero of=/xen-images/guest_base.img bs=1024k count=1000

dd if=/dev/zero of=/xen-images/guest_base-swap.img bs=1024k count=500

Change permissions for the image files. No one should have access to your Domain-0 computer since that would compromise security for all of the guest domains, but this is a good idea anyway and doesn't affect Xen.

chmod 640 /xen-images/guest_base*

Format guest_base.img as ext3 and then format guest_base-swap.img as swap. When it says "/xen-images/guest_base.img is not a block special device." answer yes to proceed anyway.

mkfs.ext3 /xen-images/guest_base.img

mkswap /xen-images/guest_base-swap.img

But still stuck whenever booting the OS.

Please help me solve the problem.

Thank you very much.

hey everyone, not really too much of a noob, ive been using linux for a few years but very casually. i understand the theories and ideas behind it, but just have a real problem with the actual nitty gritty, the command line

i hate when i cant find something or cant get something to work, thats been the main reason for me not using linux 100% my biggest problems being wireless cards, ive tried redhat, mandriva, ubuntu, opensuse, knoppix, warlinux and knoppix std. im on kubuntu now because i like the kde interface way better. i even got almost all the way through a gentoo install.

i have an intel mac mini, which i run parallels and that has mandriva, opensuse and gentoo(stuck) on it

my main linux box will be a dell latitude d610 which is running kubuntu, thats the one im on this forum for

i have feisty fawn, i have 2 wireless cards that i flip back and forth on depending if i get lucky enough to connect, a linksys and a cisco aironet 350

sometimes i boot up knoppix because its the only distro where my wireless card was really plug and play. but not without taking the encryption off of my router. before someone gives me a security lecture dont worry about it, theres no one around me my router is safe

basically the first thing i want to do is get my wireless cards to work. a lot of people say that they set theirs up with minimal set up

so my question is after you put the card in the pcmcia slot then you.......?

  WSUS question
Posted by: cyris - 2007-08-14, 03:59 PM - Forum: How Do I? - No Replies

Hey everyone,

We have about 14 computers that VPN in from various locations around the city. I would like to keep track of what updates are install on each of these computers so I though about using WSUS on our win2k3 server.

I've setup some local office machines to pull updates from our WSUS server and it seems to work fine, however I'm wondering if it's possible for the VPN clients to just report what updates they have to our WSUS but download the updates from microsoft, not over our VPN connection :/

Any ideas?

  Fedora Core 7 Remote Install
Posted by: Teresk - 2007-08-13, 06:14 PM - Forum: Fedora 7 - Replies (2)

I've searched and read about a hundred posts and replies and can't find exactly what I need.

I have tried doing a yum install after a download and there are just too many conflicts for the dependencies. I'm afraid to remove them (for instance, glibc 2.3.5... I don't know if the current system would reboot if I needed to.)

So, here's my situation and my question(s):

I have a fresh fc7 install on my home computer along with Windows XP. No problem double-booting. Both work fine.

I have a remote system currently with fc4 on it. It's fully operational.

I can sftp to it from my local fc7 install and login as root.

Bottom line question... how do I install my fc7 on top of, and replacing, the fc4 on the remote system?

I have set up a couple of methods and I'm just not confident that any of them will work properly. Here's a couple of them:

I have copied all of the fc7 files to the remote /boot directory to co-exist with the current fc4 images. The files I copied are:

config-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7

initrd-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7.img

System.map-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7

vmlinuz-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7

and the 'grub' directory and all its contents.

The grub.conf file contains:

default=0

timeout=10

splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz

hiddenmenu

title Fedora (2.6.21-1.3194.fc7)

root (hd0,0)

kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet

initrd /initrd-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7.img

If this is anywhere near correct, I don't know what to do next.

Here's another thing I've set up:

I've downloaded the fc7 release from redhat. The following files now exist in my remote /root directory:

anaconda-ks.cfg

fedora-release-notes-7.0.0-1.noarch.rpm

fedora-release-7-3.noarch.rpm

install.log

install.log.syslog

and the Desktop directory.

I modified and copied the .cfg file to "ks.cfg". It contains:

# Kickstart file automatically generated by anaconda.

install

*** I need the data that goes here. I have a floppy mounted and copied the ks.cfg file to it. ***

lang en_US.UTF-8

langsupport --default=en_US.UTF-8 en_US.UTF-8 en_US en en_US.UTF-8 en_US en

# Note that any partitions you deleted are not expressed

# here so unless you clear all partitions first, this is

# not guaranteed to work

#logvol swap --fstype swap --name=LogVol01 --vgname=VolGroup00 --size=1000 --grow --maxsize=1984

followed by all the standard %packages contents of the original .cfg

I assure you, all of the 'xxx's in the above are correct, as is my host name and password.

As in the first example, if this is anywhere near correct, I don't know what to do next.

Any suggestions will be really, really appreciated!

Thanks!

Teresk
