  Enabling Unpartitioned Space
Posted by: d34n - 2007-08-27, 02:33 AM - Forum: How Do I? - Replies (14)

This is my first hello at linux-noob as i have just recently joined but i had to sooner or later as linux is not an easy operating system for someone who hasnt used it before.

My latest problem, although i have to face is because of my own error, is that i cant use my unpartitioned space and so have ran out of space in the partition i have fedora 6 installed on. I set aside 10Gb for Fedora and was going to use the other 90Gb for two other partitions, a windows boot partition and a partition for all my data. The problem is my windows cd will no longer boot, funnily enough after i installed fedora so i have the 90Gb of unpartitioned space left and no more space on my fedora partition to install anything. At one point i couldnt even log on because it said i had 0bytes of free space left.

So to my question, how can i enable the unpartitioned space without reinstalling fedora? I really need the laptop for work right now and am quickly running out of space so i cant afford the time to format and install again.

Thanks to any answers in advance!

  Game Consoles

If you were a noob at stuff like this (hint: not as professional as you guys and not only into car games etc) then which console would you chose and why?

I am very aware about the statistics and what's more popular, but it would be nice with some opinions/insight on other models.

redhat 7 on an old cellie
Posted by: Dutch-Lin - 2007-08-25, 06:47 PM - Forum: Redhat - No Replies

Hey peepz

I have an old celeron 433 with a Geforce 2 32 mb videocard with tv-out.

I was wondering, since the regioncode didn't have to be changed..can I make that stuff a dvd-player?

I mean one I can connect to a tv set.

it would be nice.

put a NIC in it for internet video and such.

A region free dvd player for watching all-region dvd's.

Would kaffeine run on redhat 7 on a cellie 433.

it only has 64mb ram

I have a barebone PSU so I can fit it in a small (custom build) case , which is cool.

  My other HDD
Posted by: zasderf - 2007-08-25, 04:55 PM - Forum: How Do I? - Replies (1)

I have two HDDs. Funnily enough, when my Windows mess up I lose all my data at which point I hate windows. So what I did was, I have a spare 60GB HDD which I install XP on and another 200GB HDD for all my files.

For my Linux installiation, I partition my 60GB drive in 40GB (XP) and 20GB (Linux). Whilst using Ubuntu, it has a shortcut to my other HDD on the desktop, or I can access it via folders /media/hdb1. When I removed Ubuntu (because I found it a little annoying installing things), I put SUSE on. After my successful SUSE installation; on the desktop my other HDD does not show, I went to the system programs bit and found a partitioner; at which I saw the 200GB drive was not mounted. So, I mounted it at /media/hdb1, I tried to access it but it wont let me due to permission problems......how do I fix this?

I can access it via the terminal whilst logged in as root or su but I don't want to go via the terminal all the time just to play a piece of music or two.

  Video Player
Posted by: zasderf - 2007-08-25, 03:56 PM - Forum: Audio and Video - Replies (1)

Fristly, as a easy way out first. Is there a built-in .avi player in any linux distro? (preferably a easy/beginner distro)

I have tried a few distro and this does not seem to be defaulted. So, are they are .avi players that you recommend; hopefully one that is easy to install. I seem to have trouble installing.

With SUSE, no idea how to use RPMs. With Ubuntu; I paste in things and it does not seem to work and constantly get errors! So maybe as another question, which one is "good" for installing, so there is not much hassle.

the irony of the news topic and the advertisement underneath !

Microsoft Kills Its 'Get the Facts' Anti-Linux Site

Quote:It was a long time in coming, but Microsoft has finally acknowledged that its anti-Linux site had gone past the point of usefulness. On August 23, Microsoft pulled plug on the 'Get the Facts' site, replacing it with a new Windows Server 'Compare' site. "The goal of the site is to offer more in-depth information and customer-to-customer opinions about many of the issues IT administrators face," a company spokeswoman said. "It turns out people wanted 3rd party validation in addition to people's experiences making OS purchasing decisions so in addition to customer case studies, research reports that compare platforms the site will also offer guidance around best practices, web casts, etc."

now look at the screenshot below !
