today, after a few days of emails, I have acquired the domain name http://www.linuxnoob.com
why you may ask ?
well, for a number of reasons:-
* which is easier to say to a friend www.linux DASH noob.com or www.linuxnoob.com ?
* typo errors
* people who have heard of 'linux-noob.com' but didn't remember the url in it's entirety
so, i've splashed out and bit the bullet,
this is for YOU guys,
if any of you would feel like contributing to my 0.00 paypal account, then please do,

Ok i have been using protowall, and i have heard that it like a packet sniffer but it only scans the header.
So now i want to get a real packet sniffer for absolute protection. But, which one? I would prefer an open source sniffer.
BTW anyone here know how to get protowall to work in Vista?
And to give back to the forum here is my list for the best security tools:
1.) Avast Anti-Virus
2.) Spybot Search and Destroy
3.) Protowall
4.) Super Anti Spyware
Thanks for reading. Now please respond.

I have vectorlinux 5.8 SOHO installed.
I want to use truecrypt; I have many encrypted volumes and want to load them on linux.
At the truecrypt download page, http://www.truecrypt.org/downloads.php there was no option for slackware, so the only choice was to download the source file and compile it.
After downloading the source, i read the readme and tried to follow the commands, but it didn't work out.
Can anyone give me step by step procedure to install truecrypt...

Hi ,
I have modified the usb-skeleton.c to work for my first usb device driver.
I have just modified the
#define USB_SKEL_VENDOR_ID
#define USB_SKEL_PRODUCT_ID
in usb-skeleton.c according to my need.
when I give insmod init function gets called and when i give rmmod exit function gets called correctly.
When i insert my device probe hardly get called.
Do i need to add anyother thing in driver code to detect my deive.
Looking for all your help

| Easy question - How do I combine scp & ssh? |

Hi. I'm a newbie and working on a shell script.
Trying to first get one small file from a web server -- wget http://test.com/myfile.xml
Then I need to scp it to the db server. I've set up a single-purpose ssh keys and by running this can connect w/out entering password:
ssh -i ~/.ssh/whoisit MyHostName
My problems is this: when I run scp myfile.xml MyHostName:/dir1/dir2/myfile.xml, I get prompted for password.
If I run the ssh command above, I instantly connect to the db server and cannot scp, because I'm already on the remote machine.
So, my question is how do I utilize the ssh keys I've set up with scp. I just want to:
1) wget file
2) activate the ssh key, so I connect to the db server w/out entering password
3) copy the file to db servers /dir1/dir2
4) do some kind of a check if the file made it there allright
Thank you,

| usb tuner card with freej |

HI
I have found this software http://freej.org/ that I think is great. I would like to use this with a composite signal from my dvd player on my laptop. I bought a hauppauge wintv pvr usb2 card, which works great with mythtv, mplayer and vlc. But I can't make freej open the stream. I think the issue might be that the driver is partially v4l2, although I am no expert on this. Any suggestions to a usb card that I can use that will work with this program?
Alternatively, do you know some software that can mix several video layers and make scriptable animations that would work with the stream from the hauppauge usb2 card?
Thank you
