Ok - here's a tough question that I am not sure is even possible. Hopefully someone can tell me it is possible & point me to documentation that can help me make it happen.
I have an existing 2-cpu Fedora Core 5 server running in a datacenter. The datacenter is 2000+ miles away, so I must perform all maintenance remotely. This server functions as my personal email MTA, as well as the family web server. So to me at least it is a "production" server. I have diligently applied FC5 updates, etc while the server has been online. I also have diligently applied updates to my MTA.
The latest update to my MTA now requires Fedora7 as the minimum Fedora install that is supported. Thus, I must upgrade the linux install to support the MTA environment. Naturally, I do not wish to spend $$$ shipping the server back to me. Nor do I wish long downtimes. Finally, the idea of having the datacenter folks perform an upgrade frightens me deeply. (They do a great job pushing the red button when needed, but that is it.)
Here is what I would like to do in order to accomplish what I need without costing lost of $$$ or downtime:
- Remotely install a new partition of Fedora7 without touching the existing "working" install.
- Get Xen working on the new Fedora7 install
- "mount" / "move" / "copy" the existing FC5 install into a virtualized environment running under Fedora7.
----- Ok, that was step 1. I would now have the old environment back up & running. I would also have the master Fedora7 running concurrently. Next I would want to do the following;
- Create a new Fedora 7 virtualized environment (now I have 3 running -- the master, the FC5, and the Fedora 7)
- Install the latest MTA version in to the new Fedora& virtual environment. get it configured, get it tested etc.
- "Cutover" from the old FC5 to the new Fedora7
Can anyone point me to the steps I would need to follow to make this happen??
I try to install SKYPE and suddenly after that i didnt able to go ADEPT MANAGER. I go to ADEPT and add third party one which called ..../skype/debian.. something like that. HOW CAN I CHANGE IT TO DEFAULT SETTINGS.RIGHT NOW I LIKE TO FORGET SKYPE AND GET MY ADEPT INSTALLER BACK O PLEASE HELP ME.I NEW TO LINUX JUST EXPERIMENTING WITH IT
Ok, I wanted to start this to prove that Linux has the advantage.
If you have more reasons or a comment..POST IT!! THIS IS A FORUM! lol
-------
reasons:
1. Its FREE! OK, I know that sometimes free things are not great, But Linux is.
Why? Well, for one its Open-Source, Well what is open-source?
Basically, open source software is made for the use, not profit.
Its made to work and work VERY well, not to make money.
Now i know what your thinking, "If they don't have alot of money from sales then how can they make something good?"
The answer is funding and sponsorship, and just old fasion donations from people who use it.
(btw, these projects NEED MONEY,OR SOMEONE TO SPREAD THE WORD! too many people just don't give a truck and are just taking from the community!)
True open-source may be more complicated than that but that is the basics.
2. Its an extremely stable operating system. It is all about working right! I ask you, Why is Windows so popular? Because it is the best? HELL NO.
Its because they have ALOT of money, ao they can advertise, and make most computer users out there (who tend to have no idea what an OS even is) think that either;
windows is all there is, or that nothing else is any good. Then after that, they get companies to make games and software work only with the OS.
After that they basically sue anyone who makes a better replacement for all that software.
3. It looks great: Ok ok, yes Vista looks a little better. Its Aero is pretty, BUT ITS SLOW, UNSTABLE,INSCURE...you know what is you use vista then you KNOW ALL THE BS! So you think, where can i go to get something that looks better, and still works better.....umm.....Linux? YES LINUX
But Linux by itself isn't really that pretty, enter Beryl.

Ok, here is there official site:
Has anybody had a chance to play with SuSE 10.3 yet? I'm stoked that it came out but I'm on a slower broadband connection so I've had to wait for it to download.
Also, is it possible to upgrade my other SuSE system with the online updater in the system settings panel? Or would I still need to use a CD/DVD? It has a broken cd drive, that's why I ask.
I am using Windows Vista Ultimate and I want to be able to dual boot with Fedora 7...and vista HATES linux, and linux just wants to be friends wth vista..but vista is an ass...
so how do i get them to both work? is there like a third party botloader i can use becaus egrub doesn't seem to work with vista.
pls help me.

ps: this forum PWNS, thanks to everyone for helping me in the past! :)
Fedora 8 Test 3 is here! This is the last test release before the development freeze and a great time to test all those packages that you know and love. Test 3 is for beta users. This is the time when we must have full community participation. Without this participation both hardware and software functionality suffers."
