Can't mount fat32 drive |

Hi all,
I have just installed Debian 4.0 on an old Dell Optiplex gx1. Everything installed great (apart from the onboard sound which i fixed after googling) but i can't access the fat32 hard drive which has some files i need to transfer. When i try to access it i get the following errors:
Unable to mount the selected volume.
libhal-storage.c 1401 : info: called libhal_free_dbus_error but dbuserror was not set.
process 4663: applications must not close shared connections - see dbus_connection_close() docs. this is a bug in the application.
error: device /dev/hda1 is not removable
error: could not execute pmount
Anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.

I bought this card some time ago and was first very dissapointed that it had no support under linux, but with ALSA 1.0.15rc2 (which I compiled and installed) sound finally came out from my speakers :)There was no 5.1 or Line-in but I did not care because sound was great and I am not using Line-in and have a 2.1 system. But then, after a major glitch I upgraded to Ubuntu Gutsy from Feisty and there was no sound at all. I installed the drivers again, but still no use... :(
I wiped the system and installed feisty again but the same problem occured ... And since then I am not able to get ANY sound from the card using alsa...
The OSS driver works, but sound is buggy and distorted.....
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? o_O
P.S. I am very sorry for posting in the wrong thread. Can someone from the moderator group transfer it to hardware?

Hello everyone!
Im having huge trouble in getting my wlan work, no wlan connections shown in network tools (because of non working wlan card, yes?)
"lspci" says next of the card: 01:01.0 Network controller: Intersil Corporation ISL3886 [Prism Javelin/Prism Xbow] (rev 01).
I have downloaded the "prisma00.inf"-driver and installed it with ndiswrapper and after installation it says:
ndiswrapper -l
netmotcm : invalid driver!
prisma00 : invalid driver!
Now i really do not know what to do in order to get my wlan up and running
I have read many help-pages but now im quite messed up with everything concerning wlanstallation mainly because of the huge amount of information i get. (yes, im very very n00b)
If somebody could tell, or link me the step-to-step installation from beginning to end, i would appreciate!
Thanks!

Windows Media Player 9 & 10 on Linux with Wine |

I'm aware there are many open source multimedia tools that will play most audio and video formats on Linux these days but many people have come to like Windows Media player over the years. And while Xine and Mplayer will play most .WMV .WMA files, both of these players use Windows codecs that are copied into your /usr/lib/win32 directory. So if your currently happy using the closed source Windows Media codecs why not use the player as well.
Here is the link: howto install Windows Media Player 9 & 10 in Wine

What I think of PCLinuxOS |

I have been using linux for awhile now, I still not perfect ofcourse since I've quited for awhile, in the past 4years I tried alot of distro's such as (Slackware 7.0 - Mandrake - Fedora core 1 & 2 - ubuntu - knoppix - and then gentoo) I liked each one of them but mostly for me i liked gentoo the most, that was all 4yrs old, then I quit'd internet since i joined the army, few weeks ago i'm back, casually using windows which sucks, I only like windows for games, but then it accures to me that I liked linux & #Linux-noob on irc, so then i went to distrowatch and checked that PCLinuxOS is taking #1 there.
Then i was like "uh new distro? at least for me" What is PCLOS?? I never heard of it :P Then i thought i want to give it a shot, and it happens 5days ago I've downloaded PCLOS and installed it, it went very smooth.. I'll tell you this, the smoothest linux distro install i ever had. and i kept trying everything in linux just to remind myself, and get all of my memories because I totally forgot everything, and it's really awesome. I even like it more than any other distro i've tried.
If you read this, and haven't try PCLinuxOS, I'll tell you this "Give it a shot" its easy configurable & synaptic (Package manager) is really awesome. in general a word from a noob "easy to use"
have fun. :)

I have a P4 at 1.7 Ghz, 512Mb of DDR RAM, a new Western Digital 160 HDD (which i set as master) an older IBM 40GB HDD (now set to slave that has Windows XP Pro installed on it) ...
I installed freespire 2.0 completely without any problems, i gave it 160gigs on the new harddrive but when the computer restarted it froze right at the beginning of the splash screen. I tried to reinstall (and all the other options on the cd) but the installation now freezes a few seconds after the splash screen comes up. I tried to boot up into windows, but nothing i did would let me. I ended up having to let windows rewrite the mdr just so it would load, but right before the logon screen is supposed to come up it just restarts o_O ... I ended up having to reinsall windows over the 160gb linux drive , now i cant even see the G: drive (which linux reassigned to the old windows) however, i can see the other two NTFS partitions on that drive (still E: and F: )
What i really want to do is completely get rid of windows and move to linux (I'm sick and tired of all its problems ) but it seems that isnt going to be as easy as i thought. I'm a somewhat savy windows user but i'm brand new to linux. I tried to install linux again but it still freezes on the splash screen every time. can anyone help me or give me any suggestions? did i do something wrong?

* typo errors
* people who have heard of 'linux-noob.com' but didn't remember the url in it's entirety
so, i've splashed out and bit the bullet,
this is for YOU guys,
