Dell D630 distro help |

I just purchased a Dell D630 and am looking for a distro that will be the least painful to setup. I have tried to setup 7.04. Had video issues but I think I have resolved them but am having a LOT of network issues. (Wired not working, Wireless not working,) Also it doesn't appear to see my DVD burner as an available drive. Is there a distro that would be a better solution than Ubuntu 7.04 ? Are there any pointers that I should look for?
I am over my head here I think. :(

hi all,
well you all have a nick either on IRC or here on the forums,
most of us pick something that isn't our real name for obvious reasons, but why did you pick it and what (if anything) does it mean ?
to help you along, i'll explain where 'anyweb' (my nick) came from..
a long long time ago when the intraweb/internet was being formed (oh ok, around 1995) I was getting online using netscrape and doing some odd-jobs for people,
The 'jobs' were what I was interested in at the time were web-design and all things related (sparetime as I already had a computer job) so I did a few websites and made some nice money. While I was at it I thought about putting together a logo/website etc but only got started and never did anything (apart from create a few photoshopped 'anyweb' logos), however what I did come up with was..........
anyweb
which was short for 'anyweb site' design you need (or something like that)
so that's where I got/made anyweb from !
now tell us about your nick :)
The astute amongst you will notice that I also use the following nicks > webany (duh, it's anyweb reversed) and any_web and web_any (if i'm on multiple computers, which funnily enough i usually am)
cheers
anyweb

Dual Monitor with Gnome |

o_O I had KDE on a linux distro and I just went into "Desktop settings" or something and easily could extend my desktop to my other monitor. Right now their just both the same ( Clones ) of one desktop and I cannot find any setting or applet that will alow me to extend the desktop (DUal Monitor)
Could anyone possibly give me some tips or walk me through this? I hate GNOME, and KDE, I prefer Fluxbox, but this PC has enough resources to run KDE, or GNOME.
-Any help would be much appreciated, thanks. :P

How to move .txt file so avi and txt has the same names |

1. I would like to say hello to everyone, because it is my first post :)
2. Some people are watching a lot of movies with subtitles. On example me :P Sometimes downloaded from some sites .txt file doesn't have the same name like ours .avi file. It's tiring to change these names in any gui application or even in console(usually there is a lot of other files like .rar, .r01...etc with similiar names). So I wrote this very little bash script which does that.
Code: #!/bin/bash
mv *.txt $(basename *.avi .avi).txt
It will work only if in present dir is only one .txt and .avi file, and if these files names doesn't insist any spaces. I didn't know how to make it working with spaces. If anyone know, please let me know.
I hope it may be usefull for someone :]

Quote:Patrick Volkerding has released Slackware 12.0. From the changelog: "Released as Slackware 12.0 with no changes since the last batch. Big Thanks again are due to the CREW, without whom this just wouldn't be possible to do with the level of quality that Slackware users demand. We had a lot of help this time, and I hope it shows in project output that you'll enjoy. Thanks for the support of the Slackware community, because without your support I wouldn't be able to keep leading this project."
