How do I fix Beryl? |

I recently installed Beryl on Ubuntu 7.10 Feisty Fawn, and I'm a complete beginner at it. I was enjoying all the pretty eye candy, when I came across the "advanced options" when you left click beryl in the taskbar. I went htrough the rendering platforms until I clicked "XGL" (i think), and then it froze. I was wondering how to reset the rendering platform back to AIGLX or Nvidia. Thanks!

Having some trouble with dual boot. |

Hi, I'm a person who has dabbled with Ubuntu since Dapper Drake. I'm interested in learning Linux and I chose Ubuntu because it seemed like a distro I could use with the family computer. I enjoy Ubuntu, especially the latest release 7.04, but I can not switch completely because there are programs that I need Windows XP to run them (ex. Daemon Tools, some games, Adobe Flash, etc.). Currently, I have a dual-boot setup with Ubuntu on Partition 1 and Windows XP on Partition 2. Windows XP was already installed on the computer, so it was only a matter of installing Ubuntu. At first, I could easily switch between Windows XP and Ubuntu, but the next day I came back and suddenly I could no longer boot into Windows. On GRUB, Windows XP (SP2) appears as an option, but when I select it, it displays a message saying "Starting up.." with a blinking cursor then does nothing. I'm not sure what is causing this and I want to wait before I reinstall GRUB since I see that as a last resort.
Computer Specs:
model: HP Pavilion m7640n
Hard Drive size: 300 GB, SATA. The partitions are split in half, with a 500 MB swapfile. I did the partitiong through the GUI installer.
Video Card: NVidia 6100 Integrated
Memory: 2 GB
Windows XP version: SP2

Day 16.
This avant dock is cool, I have to admit, but the gdesklets icons keep bouncing up and down and it's getting a bit annoying. I probably have to do something with it to configure this but i'm too tired to think heh :)
Luckily, IRC has lots of useful advice when it comes to problems like this and even BEFORE I asked about it guess what happened
(from EFNET/#ubuntu)

<anyweb> what did he say leftyfb
<anyweb> i missed it
<dn> what is the name of the area on the top gnome bar that has icons of currently open applications?
<leftyfb> panel
<leftyfb> anyweb .. some suggestions
<anyweb> https://www.linux-noob.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2953 <- 30 days with ubuntu (from a fedora user)
<dn> in 'add to panel' what is it though?
<kcharle> Nobody can help me?
<anyweb> suggestions are good
<leftyfb> drag some .desktop files to your avant bar making them launchers
<leftyfb> and run gdesklets from the CLI
<leftyfb> that way it doesn't show up in your taskbar
<anyweb> ah to stop them jumping up and down on the avant dock ?
<leftyfb> no, thats to notify you of changes to them
<leftyfb> like with IM's
<kcharle> Do i gotta install drivers for my keyboard or sumthin? cause i cant click anything and the keyboard wont work, the mouse moves tho
<leftyfb> or downloads or something
<leftyfb> but with yours you have your launcher on the left, and more firefox icons on the right that could just be running in the same launcher icon with a little triangle to show that it's an open and running application
<anyweb> brb kids screaming....
* bentob0x has quit (Remote host closed the connection)

<leftyfb> there ya go anyweb :)
the important bits of the above were
Quote:<leftyfb> drag some .desktop files to your avant bar making them launchers<leftyfb> and run gdesklets from the CLI
<leftyfb> that way it doesn't show up in your taskbar
thanks leftyfb!
i'll make sure to test this :)

Well I have been using Suse for about five days and I am now wanting some help... I am not sure about what I am doing, I have been able to install some programs and games. I am unsure about the "Konsole" I have learned some basic commands. No I am not getting frusterated, but rather only wanting to know how I can further my new found love! Linux has become all that windows could never do! Much more simple than a lot of ppl had led me to think. However learning a new OS is a task I am not sure where to begin, so some advise would be greatly liked! thanx for your time.

Resize lagging |

Hello! This is my first post to the forum, which is great by the way.
I'm having a very strange problem on openSUSE...
When I resize a window it lags MASSIVELY (And video lags too when you resize). But the videocard (ATI x1600xt) drivers are fine, beryl is working very smooth.
It affects both Gnome and KDE and configuring the system options or beryl's didn't help.
The problem was since I installed openSUSE, and there is no references to it in the forums.
Can you help me out? :(
P.S. The problem affects only resizing and everything else runs great...

Hi,
I'm posting here with yet another one of my problems, being cron. For some reason I cannot get it to work, below is what I have setup (through crontab -e)
Code: # m h dom mon dow command
0 19 * * * "/media/hdd/backup/Web Server/webserverbackup.sh"
Which runs a script to backup my web server, although I cannot figure out why, but it doesn't want to run it. The date is setup correctly. and I'm struggling to think of any other problems. Could anyone point me into the right direction with this?
Thanks,
Lee :)
