  Ubuntu Noob vs Error 17
Posted by: Fist of the North Star - 2008-05-26, 03:10 PM - Forum: Ubuntu - Replies (1)

Greetings all.

I'm brand new to Linux and I've hit my first (technically 2nd) big snag. After googling around and overcoming the wonderfully entertaining "Error 18" villain, I rebooted only to get the much more wicked "Grub Error 17" message. I've googled around and there almost doesn't seem to be any single answer on how to fix this. I've tried a few different things and nothing's working for me. I can run Ubuntu from my live CD just fine but every time I try something to fix it, I reboot and ol' "Error 17" smacks me in the face.

Help would be greatly appreciated and guarantee you some good computing karma I'm sure.

  Load average is going wild
Posted by: faifas - 2008-05-25, 05:18 PM - Forum: LAMP - Replies (3)

Hello fellows,

I'm having a weird issue and wanted to find out if any of you know how to deal with it.

I've got myself Ubuntu box and online RPG game hosted on it.

The problem is that apache and mysqld is going wild (I mean it).

load average: 1.22, 1.20, 1.07

That's an usual load when I only have 40 players online.

Tried stopping apache, server load went to 0.02 (ircd was using it)

Server speed: 2.0Ghz

RAM: 500mb

apache conf:

timeout 5

Keepalive On

keep alive timeout 15

My server is good enough for such project and I can bet that I have a bug somewhere in my PHP code, that causes a never ending loop and apache with mysqld are going wild.

Mysql is using ~20% of CPU and few apache childs are using ~11% each, so that's really not normal.

What do I want you to help me with is a tool for showing php files CPU usage or something similar, so that I could find out which of my files are causing that server load.

Thanks in advance,

Faifas

  Hello and HELP!!!!
Posted by: fastmouse - 2008-05-22, 11:25 AM - Forum: How Do I? - Replies (1)

Hi everyone,

Im extremely new to Linux etc and have been thrown right in the deepend!

Im currently looking after a red hat web server and im having a bit of a night mare! probably easy for you guys :)

Anyways Ive googled the problem and cant find an answer.

Here we go!

Ok ive been updating a few PDFs and a web page from my companies website, the guy who handed to me told me to just dropthem in the differing folders....which I have done.

only one PDF works from the web.

All open direct.

All links etc are ok.

The file permissions are ok.

However when i try to retrieve the files from the web im getting a "you dont have permission" 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request?

The only other thing I can offer is that we use Apache 2.0.52

As i said my knowledge of linux is very very limited just a few lines a have written down!

Please can somone let me know what to do?

many thanks

Mike

Hi, i'm a portuguese Linux user.

I need help to create a script to update my database, this script is to be launched daily on cron.

The query is: (update accountinfo set Entreprise="OLICAR" where TAG="admin_reg" or TAG="agro";)

The table accountinfo is in database "test". I use mysql-server 5.0.32 in fedora 8.

I have already searched, but I only found script's in PHP.

I really appreciate your answer, thank you for your help.

Sorry my English.

Cheers.

As we have read, there is now a weakness in the random number generator used by OpenSSL.

I suggest users of any Debian and Debian based system read here.

  8.04 some testing
Posted by: Varjagy - 2008-05-16, 04:43 PM - Forum: Hardy Heron (8.04) - No Replies

A little late, but finally some notes:

I have now upgraded a few computers from 7.10 to 8.04. Most of them get some bugs after the upgrade, and they are very similar to the ones people experienced when they upgraded fro 7.04 to 7.10. Hopefully I'll get to test fresh installs soon.

Bugs so far:

- Takes ages to unpack files.

- Updata manager locks up

Other small notes:

- the "Screens and Graphics" button is moved to Applications - Other (Other can be found if you right click Applications - Edit Menus)

  Setting SPF records
Posted by: thehappyappy - 2008-05-13, 10:54 AM - Forum: How Do I? - No Replies

Does anybody know who I can set up SPR records? I've created a record and it says that I need to

Quote:Paste this into your zone file:xxxxxxxxx.com. IN TXT "v=spf1 ip4:xxx.xxx.xxx.xx a mx ~all"
and

Quote:So this should also appear in DNS. You may or may not be in charge of the DNS for these entries; if you are, add them.

mail. xxxxxxxxx.com. IN TXT "v=spf1 a -all"
I logged into the server as the root users via ssh and typed in /var/named (which my host told me to do) but all it said was

Quote:is a directory
I really need to add this because Microsoft is blocking emails from the site even though it's only an opt-in system

Thanks

  Fedora 9 - Final- Screenshots
Posted by: mcduck - 2008-05-10, 11:30 PM - Forum: Fedora 9 - Replies (3)

Hey all

I'v been using Fedora 9 Final for a couple of days now (A special thanks go to a misconfigured fedora mirror in europe).

The essentials:

[mcduck@localhost ~]$ cat /etc/redhat-release

Fedora release 9 (Sulphur)

[mcduck@localhost ~]$ uname -a

Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.25-14.fc9.i686 #1 SMP Thu May 1 06:28:41 EDT 2008 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux

Images now mirrored. To clear up any mistakes: Fedora 9 is not "Released" yet. (This is more like a.. "leak")

Bandwidth graphs for the image server (web server graphs not available). Can you spot the digg effect? :)

Here are some shots from the install. I will not go into detail when it comes to these. One thing that has changed is the encryption option (i did not test this), that allows you to make and install to an encrypted partition.

Finally, time for login. The login box looks rather boring. I liked the old one way better.

One thing to note; The session option (Where you can choose windows manager, for example kde or gnome) is now located as a bar on the bottom of the screen and only becomes visable after you click on your user (when your asked to type password)

Let's confirm version:

Now, lets have a look at KDE 4!

Jummy, it looks so nice! The clock is actually a widget. Notice the image in the top right corner? This is where you add / remove widgets

A little more widgets running here:

Turning on widgets is really easy. Just click the icon at the top right of your screen. This bring forth this menu:

[/img]http://video.linux-noob.com/screenshots/...462933.png[/img]

Time to look at some of the updated stuff in Fedora. One such thing is Firefox.

Another thing is the "Start menu". Now it works much like the one in Vista. It takes a little getting used to, but definitly better than the old one (Or the one in Vista).

But Konquerer was not dead!
