  google's new privacy policy
Posted by: inittux - 2012-02-01, 11:22 AM - Forum: General Chat - No Replies

https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/

The part that they're logging everything hasn't changed if you're logged into any google account. But what they are going to do is merge everything into one account so that you don't have seperate account for every google service anymore. Like the've been doing in the past they'll be collecting information from you via cookes, and if you have gps in your device they will use information from your location too. And give you more search results from your location and things that you search for alot. And now Google complies with the U.S.-EU Safe Harbor Framework and the U.S.-Swiss Safe Harbor Framework. Meaning if any government demands to have access to your account/data. They will give it freely without asking questions. I don't like the idea that they will give my data without questions asked. I know it's a free service but that's going a bit far especially with this whole SOPA and PIPA thing still maybe to come. I tried to make a short summary of it, if you want more details you can go to the link above. Might be time for me to setup my own mail service instead of using anything that's free or switching to a different mail service.

  Some music to ponder over
Posted by: Dungeon-Dave - 2012-01-31, 08:11 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (6)

My music tastes are somewhat strange - many people would find it depressing or frightening - but I like music with life, with soul. That doesn't mean I'm a big Mowtown fan, it means I like sounds that stir and inspire me.

Some of the stuff here isn't to everyone's tastes, but it's stuff I often find tranquil and relaxing.

Fields Of the Nephilim - a big fan of theirs from some early days, seen them a few times in concert. Their earlier music began quite raw and gruttal, matured into progressive rock then into Pink Floyd type sounds. After a split and reform, they moved into grunge and dark metal, much of which I find too thrashy for my tastes, but there's the one or two gems amongst their collection.

Other stuff I listen to: Linkin Park, Vangelis, Sisters Of Mercy, The Mission, ELO.... told you it was a bit of an odd mix!

Fedora 17 moving Linux system folders to /usr
Posted by: inittux - 2012-01-30, 09:13 PM - Forum: Linux News - Replies (1)

Fedora 17 moving Linux system folders to /usr

Developers are busy working on Fedora 17 and found out they are making a few changes. What changes? They are moving some system files to the /usr directory.

The Following directories will be moved there: /bin /sbin /lib and /lib64 including their sub directories. For now they will keep a symbolic link from the / directory to the

/usr directory, that is to prevent compatibility issues with older Linux software and scripts. This way making it only possible to have a few system files under root and letting

the system creating a seperate mount point for the system files under /usr . Why are they doing this? The simplified directory structure brings advantagesto virtualization

and cloud computing. And developers want to improve compability with other unix varients and GNU software. See more information here. What do you think of this?

change?
