Problem with USB - Ethernet Converter of FC5
Posted by: linuxnewbie82 - 2006-12-14, 12:01 PM - Forum: Fedora Core Release 5 - Replies (3)

Hi

I have a ADM8511 Pegasus II USB Ethernet Converter. I have Fedora Core5 running on my System.

The problem is I can see my device listed under Hardware, but get the following error when I try & add it as a new device under the devices menu.

pegasus device eth2 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization.

The following is the Output of lsusb command :

[root@localhost ~]# lsusb

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

Bus 002 Device 002: ID 1267:0201 Logic3 / SpectraVideo plc A4Tech SWOP-3 Mouse

Bus 005 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

Bus 003 Device 002: ID 07a6:8511 ADMtek, Inc. ADM8511 Pegasus II Ethernet

Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

My Kernel Version is : 2.6.15-1.2054_FC5

The lsusb detects the device as shown above, but the device is not detected under the /dev directory.

I'm lost. How can I fix this ??? The device works perfectly under Windows XP

regards

krish.

  Is HD dead?
Posted by: d03boy - 2006-12-14, 02:17 AM - Forum: Filesystem Management - Replies (5)

Dell Inspiron 8600 (laptop)

Not exactly new but not real old. Maybe 4 years max.

I had debian installed for a long time and it was running ok. Eventually it started being a hoe so I installed archlinux and it was ok for a while. Then I started having problems when I tried installing stuff using pacman. I think this is when the drive became non-writable or something. So I installed gentoo for fun. Well, after installation I booted up and it worked fine for a couple reboots. Then it made me do a fsck or whatever its called. Found problems that it couldnt fix I guess. So I reinstalled and all went well until the same thing happened. So I installed kubuntu thinking that gentoo was screwing up my file system. Kubuntu installed fine but after a few reboots the drive is not writable anymore. Same problems as with the other one. I dont hear any bad noises or anything. I havent gotten any hardware errors, just system errors saying the drive is not writable. How do I know if I need a new HD?

  SuSE 10.2
Posted by: kabifff - 2006-12-13, 07:28 PM - Forum: SUSE - Replies (2)

SuSE 10.2 was released this week and it's beautiful and gorgeous and everything I ever dreamed, except for the blasted "broadcom wireless support." It recognizes my hp 97xx wireless card, but it won't do anything. It won't read any networks or enable or anything, and NDISWrapper suggests an alternate driver. Even when properly configured, NDISWrapper won't work now. It configures fine with the right drivers, but it flat out won't work. Has anybody gotten far enough into it to know what's going on with this? The KDE 5.5 is beautiful!

  Intel Pro 2200 Wireless / IBM R50e / Mandriva 2007 Free
Posted by: algoz - 2006-12-13, 03:16 PM - Forum: Wireless - Replies (13)

Hello everybody in Forum Land. I am a NEWBIE to Linux. Have just installed 'Mandriva 2007 FREE' on my IBM R50e. I am VERY impressed and am asking myself why I have relied on Microsoft for so long. I think I will become a convertee!

Anyway, everything seems to work except my wireless connection. Its an INTEL PRO2200 adapter. The system recognises it but says maiising firmware.

I have downloaded the ipw2200-fw-3.0 folder from the intel site, it contains these 4 files...

ipw2200-bss.fw

ipw2200-ibsss.fw

ipw2200-sniffer.fw

LICENSE.ipw2200-fw

I believe these to be the firmware files which need to be installed somewhere?

So,

1 - are these the firmware files I need?

2 - how do I install them?

Please help, and accept my apologies if its obvious and I'm being stupid.

Many thanks

ALGOZ

Using external mouse instead of touchpad
Posted by: CemilB - 2006-12-09, 02:04 AM - Forum: Ubuntu - Replies (1)

Hi All,

I just installed ubuntu for the first time on an old Dell laptop I had. I was surprised how easy and smooth it was. Amazing!

The only problem I encountered: I have an external mouse plugged in, but it does not work, the built-in touchpad works OK, but I'd rather use the external mouse. Any idea how I can make the exteral mouse work (instead or in addition to the built-in touchpad)

By the way, he laptop is a Dell Inspiron 7000 (bought around 1998, if I remember right). It was very slow under Windows, but it is fantastic under ubuntu...

Thanks,

Cemil
