RHEL 6 and TigerVNC |

Ok so I need to VNC into an RHEL 6 box. The admin installed TigerVNC. I've never used VNC, but I understand it to be the Linux "RDP". Anyway, how does VNC work in regard to server/client software? Do you have to use a particular VNC client to connect to a particular VNC server? Could I use TightVNC or RealVNC clients to connect to the TigerVNC server? What do you all recommend as far as VNC clients?
Thanks!

I found a log file that kind of worries me, it's not my website log file but /var/log/secure. Is this something to worry about? Looks like someone is trying to break in:

a noobish problem with Kubuntus terminal thing |

Hi everyone. Its very nice to meet you. I have recently installed Kubuntu (my first time on Linux) and have struck a problem which hopefully you can help me with .. I am trying to install the Opera browser and I was told to open the terminal Konsole and type sudo apt-get install opera. Then it asked me for my password which is fine.
Now it reads ... package lists:Done .....building dependency tree ...reading state info:Done ...Package opera is not availabe but is referred to by another package ....may mean package is missing obsoleted etc
E:Package opera has no installation candidate
Thats it ^^ Do I have to have gdebi installed ( i dont know what that is ). On the Opera download page it had Debian package as the default so maybe if I just go ahead and download it I can save myself all this hassle ? I havent tried that yet because I dont want to mess up my newly formatted computer with half installed programs that I dont have the skills to uninstall.
I think ive bitten off more than i can chew with this Linux thing XD
But your help would really be appreciated
thank you.
*******
Also if you could tell me what browser is the best for linux and other basic hints that would be great :)

kernel.org website hacked |

Linux website kernel.org has been hacked and is offline. The hackers managed to get root user access.
Kernel.org is offline; They are still investigating the attack and making backups and doing reinstalls
I wonder what effect this hack will have on linux and linux users? No online system is safe, everything
can be hacked but if kernel.org got hacked and their security must be high. What are the chances of
your system or my system getting hacked?

Ubuntu switching to a monthly release cycle????? |

It's all over the web, rumors about Ubuntu switching over to a monthly release cycle. Seems like Ubuntu is following up
Firefox's example(copying Firefox?!). A reason behind it, because people like to explore. There would be no more code
names and updates would go through /etc/apt/sources.list just like Debian's testing repository(copying Debian?!). Problem
with this is same as the problems with Firefox moving too fast. Developers not being able to keep up and having alot less
time to develop decent applications for the OS. Applications would have more bugs making ubuntu even less stable Other
problems would be users losing confidence in the Operating system. Who wants to upgrade their OS every month? or
re-install every month?I know I don't, a 6 month release cycle I already find short. That's why I switched from Ubuntu to
Debian and same reason why I never liked fedora. But one month release cycle is insane!!Any Ubuntu users here?!I'm glad
I'm not What are your opinions on this? I sure hope for the Ubuntu users they don't make this mistake of switching to a monthly
release cycle.

Been kind of busy this past week, and this week too. Going to continue with my webserver project en wil post and document here so others can use it and I'll post my questions here when I'm stuck on something and can't figure it out. I'm going to try install/configure suphp, mod_ssl, and maybe mod_security. And maybe others but just starting with these.

problems reaching linux-noob |

I've been having problems reaching linux-noob. It's really random. Sometimes I can just enter the website link: www.linux-noob.com or linux-noob.com and I got the website.
Other times is says the page can't be found, I then google linux-noob and I get the website and sometimes when I google it I also get: page cannot be found. I tried clearing
my cache, but I have this problem with chrome, firefox and IE and I have it when I'm in windows and when I'm running on linux and I have it when I'm at work. All other
websites seem to be loading fine. So since I have the problem at work and at home it can't be on my side. So probably on the server side? I hope you can take a look at
this? If you need anymore info just let me know :) I'll try and see what happens when I only use a proxy to access the website and see if it makes a difference.
